1980 The Fog

I say you need to get to sleep. Your not thinking clearly and you need rest.

He owned the early 80's. What he did for us sci fi horror fans was a pretty damn good run.

I lived and partied hard in the 80's and his work was amazing.
BTW Ordered. This is one of my favorite sci-fi horror flicks of all time. It is right behind Alien in my list.

:LOL::rofl::joy::rofl::thumbs:

From Mondo's site:

"Look closely at your neighbor…Trust no one…They might be THE THING! We're excited to partner with Universal Pictures to celebrate the Sci-Fi classic with Mondo x SteelBook #008: John Carpenter’s THE THING on Blu-ray Disc.

We’ve used Jock’s incredible variant poster, first released in 2013 at San Diego Comic Con, in a gloss finish to represent the icy desolation depicted in the film, with the eerie image of THE THING to leave you wondering: is it a man or is it…something else? Inside the SteelBook the artwork is a bloody network of alien-human hybrid veins, because after all, Man is the warmest place to hide."

Hey! Don't forget 1987! One of my favorites!

Artwork looks really really gorgeous but another time I don't like the movie enough :dunno:
I was close to enter the GB for this one but it will go against my own promise to only buy movies that I really like and not because of the art.
So with a heavy heart I think I will pass on this one too :sour:

I consider it a horror in the same way I consider JAWS a horror. Which is to say- really more about suspense than horror. I'm not a big horror fan and this is a favorite. It is a scifi suspense film with horror elements.
(and a great score by Ennio Morricone!)
Like American Werewolf- the practical effect here are still the zenith yet to be topped!
It's just a great movie. You won't regret it!
That's good to know... maybe it'll be right up my street after all then! I love films like Jaws and Alien because of the suspense in them, plus I'm a big fan of sci-fi, so I probably should've given this film a chance much sooner. Although, another thing that's always put me off (this is where I agree with @Sigill), is that I'm not a big fan of Carpenter. I'm looking forward to finally giving this a watch anyway. :)

I am a big John Carpenter fan @Noodles! It's just I don't consider this to be as good as other people say it is. For me it's one of his lesser works but if you love Sci-Fi/ horror then you may like it. It's still a good film but I wouldn't put it up there with Big Trouble In Little China, Prince of Darkness and The Fog. That's only my opinion though and I will still be picking this up to add to my Mondo collection!:)

Not a fan of John Carpenter?!?! And I thought we were friends @Noodles
Well you're not a fan of Star Wars, so this should make us equal now. :p

Sorry dude... I think I got yours and @Ricker's posts confused (although Halloween is his worst film IMO). :bag:

It probably doesn't help that I only saw most of his films for the first time in the last year or two, so I was very late to the party and had high hopes for most of them. I did really enjoy Precinct 13 though!

While the artwork is very welcome and new, it ain't stunning either. It's nice though and I do like its minimal design. However, I wasn't missing out on this gb, the film is in my top 10 of all time and nothing, nothing, will ever shift it out of that top spot. I would love to see a Film Arena version some day.
