I think it's head looks proportionate to what type of Alien it is. The Alien in the 3rd film is different than any other alien in any of the other films. It's referred to as the Dog Alien. Plus it doesn't have any of the pipes or whatever they are that protrude from it's back like in Aliens. Here's a picture of it.
