Sorry if this seems a rant but I've had enough of members backing out deals because they have "sourced it cheaper" or "sorry did a deal with another". When I say I buy or when a trade deal is finalised, I go through with it even if I could have sourced it cheaper after the deal was agreed...

Is the a recent thing? A Ninja's word is his honour, right?

Yep, that's the way it should be. Once both (or more) parties have agreed on the deal there should be no backing out regardless.

If it's because you can get it cheaper then tough, next time you might learn to be more patient. If it's because you don't have enough money at the time then the deal remains until funds are available. If it's some really serious sh*t then perhaps some slack can be cut, but you get the gist.

I'm not the most prolific trader on the forum but a deal is a deal and your word is jeopardised if you back out without the agreement of the person you are trading with. It's just common courtesy.

Hub, at least you've done the honourable ninja thing and not named or shamed the member(s) ;)

Yeah, working out the deal before it's finalized is one thing (oh man, I just found a deal on _____. Can we swap that title for another?), but once you have both agreed to a specific trade/sale, it should only be able to be changed if both parties agree.

I have always honoured my word on trades and group buys. But at the same time, I have let members out of deals if asked. Some do have legitimate reasons. But one thing kind of bugs me. The members who do the group buys are often taken advantage of. My feeling is if you join a group buy, its a contract. If your country releases the same steel later, that is NO reason to back out of your commitment.

I have some friends that do knee caps relatively cheap! :hilarious:

All kidding aside, that's just goes against every rule of etiquette!

AGREED!

As far as GB's go, sorry buddy I don't agree. They are a lot of. work I am hosting a GB right now for ST and I still have not heard from everybody if they needed to back out. I even sent 3 PM to those members that have not responded, just asking for an answer. Will I ever help those members again? A BIG NO. So I understand the need to be able to back out of a GB

When I said that the post limit for the trade section was a waste of time, I got told that I was wrong. Clearly there was an element of validity in my opinion. The fact of the matter is that the rules as they stand are woefully inadequate. I think AV run a better system where all negotiation takes place on trade threads and not via PM. Only once a deal is agreed do members use the PM system. This way it is easy for other members and moderators to gauge how trustworthy another member is. The feedback system is fine but the way members conduct themselves not only once a trade is agreed but throughout the entire process of negotiation is arguably more important and a better judge of character.

I agree with everyone.

I mostly buy but have sold & traded on a few occasions and if a deal is made then its final. Luckily I've never had anyone back out of a deal but it must be annoying when it happens. With an online community your word had to be your bond otherwise where does the trust come from.

Hey folks, to clarify, regarding the trading guidelines, I posted about not leaving negatives for non-completed transactions here - https://www.hidefninja.com/forums/showpost.php?p=729834&postcount=523

If a member or group buy host paid for the item, per the request of a member, something was sourced, it makes sense. But if you are chatting and negotiations fall apart...no way, no how can negative be left.

Second, if you've done enough trades, you've had this happen before, its part of the trading game.

Third, if a couple of folks think a particular trader does that all the time, contact a trading mod or staff member for help.

Finally, there's been a lot of talk around the forum about the culture, the atmosphere, and other things becoming too negative. Posting a public list is a witch hunt, based on heated feelings and disappointment due to a trade gone sour only contributes to the negative atmosphere and will not be allowed on this forum.

Thank you.
