In pictures 5 & 6 have you used a black sharpie pen at the bottom of the case to cover the 2 white marks up ?
They are part of the steelbook picture fella , think they have something to do with the coat fastners.

That's shocking. One of the cheapest looking finishes I've seen in a long time. I'm sticking with my digibook, money saved.
Do we know is the German and UK transfer identical. The PQ on the actual movie isn't the best either!

I know that but they look more like paint chips
The 2 coat fastners its bare silver and when you have the steelbook in hand they look more like paint chips
It was a decision I took as I prefer it to not look as if the steelbook has paint chips even though I know they are not

By the same token you should just sharpie out the 'Artificial Intelligence' on the spine if you don't like it.

I like the colours and emboss on the A.I. Logo, the finish could be better but it's ok. Really hate the horrible glue they use on the recent WB steelbooks, very messy.
Yeah looks like he used a marker, I had to double check as well when I got this steelbook, I realised it was not a defect looking at the original pictures and part of the design, is kind of distracting though.

Mine arrived damaged; not a great steel by the looks of things but for me - any steel (even as a placeholder for now) is fine, especially as I don't yet own this on blu-ray. My first damaged Zavvi steel - off to their Customer Services I go - wish me luck 
That's why I used the marker as the 2 coat fastners look more like paint chips and yes are very distracting
I knew before I unsealed the steelbook it was meant to look that way but have to silver marks that's supposed to be 2 coat fastners they really look more like paint chips were they are on the steelbook it would have been better if they had not had this on the steelbook from the start

I actually think that zavvi work in conjunction with the studio on these releases. This is based on several observations:
1. The same ridiculous ridged steelbook and random embossing that occurs across virtually all zavvi steel books. This is in the design regardless of whether it's coming from Disney, Warner, fox, universal etc. if the studio were ordering the direct from the manufacturer themselves, and then supplying the to the retailer you can bet they wouldn't opt for the exact same ridiculous 'ridge frame' design. The fact that regardless of studio or distributor the design is standard across 90% of the steel releases comes out of zavvi is telling.
2. Whilst I don't doubt the studio submit or put forward artwork, zavvi obviously do have sway as numerous times the artwork has been changed after collectors have complained.
3. After collectors complained to zavvi about the lack of gloss and Matt finish on the Disney steels, they listened and started making the later ones with a gloss finish suddenly. Who was complaining to Disney? Anyone? Would buena vista even care about the opinions of a minority of steel book collectors 'over the pond'? I think not.
I believe that zavvi put forward ideas to the studios for consideration based on upcoming releases, and if the studio agrees to licence it, they then submit artwork, at which point zavvis standard manufacturer (which no doubt supplies Germany, Amazon etc also for wider releases) drops the hi res artwork into their 'ridge frame' Template on InDesign and off it goes to print on the agreed standard Matt finish blank steel case.

The examples you put forward in your post are all Zavvi Exclusives though that were not available anywhere else (eg: All Disney Steelbooks, Jumanji, Who Framed Roger Rabbit etc...) so they weren't from a print run that was divided up among other retailers.
So on those cases, yes, Zavvi would have more clout when it came to something that they were solely responsible for. But not when a print run is shared with other retailers.
In that case the artworks/designs are already finalised. The retailers have no say in the product they receive only the right to sell it.
In the case of multiple retailers for one product, could you imagine Zavvi saying 'we think the artwork on Poltergeist should be reversed and be gloss'. And amazon saying 'no, we're happy with the design and we want it matte'!!!? It would be a disaster!

Yes but I don't think anyone is questioning non-exclusive steels sold by multiple retailers - just Zavvi exclusives which, as you say, they should have some say in what is produced and yet release after release is ruined by cheap corner cutting leading to average, disappointing steels.
But people are blaming Zavvi for this (A.I.) which isn't one of their own exclusives so to speak.
It's unfair to blame them for something they have no control over. Which brings us back full circle.
