Boarded or not, I think it looks pretty darn lovely under real eyes. Nice quality, great shine, letters are close to the golden shine I imagine, yeah I'm pretty damn satisfied.

Though it does seem to love my finger prints....

Our post at work comes in the afternoon so hoping it will be sitting on my desk after I come back from lunch. Looks like a lovely in the pics posted on the line ;)

Be careful...you will get labeled a Zavvi hater :hilarious:
I raised the same thing about the raised borders when I first saw it. I think the raised border only works when the artwork doesn't fill up the entire front of a steel thereby drawing attention to the center where the image is like Thor.

In Aladdin I think it doesn't work at all as it seems to kind of break up the fluidity of the art

I think it's been blown slightly out of proportion by both camps, really.

As always though, opinion on artwork can only ever be subjective, and if you don't like the borders then that's a perfectly valid opinion to have. If people label you as a Zavvi hater because of it, then I think that just makes their own argument look entirely graceless. ;)

Your thoughts on when the borders work and when they don't are actually something I completely agree with. Even though I really like the Aladdin steel, there is something odd about the artwork continuing into the border, absolutely.

The problem is, Zavvi must surely be getting mixed feedback from the steelbook collecting community. There is a great call for embossing/debossing to make a steel more desirable and stand out, and the debossed centre with a border is the simplest way to achieve that. Now there seems to be a call to reduce the number of bordered steels, which if followed through with would likely reduced the amount of embossed steels, and Zavvi lose that as a selling point. It's a bit of a catch 22.

All I can suggest is that people with border concerns let Zavvi know that what you want as a collector is a little more thought on what treatments are merited by any given steel's artwork. In all honesty, that should be the most important thing with any steelbook (along with what artwork best represents a movie), and unfortunately doesn't always seem to be taken into consideration.

I got this in hand and i was amazed at how great and vibrant the colors our, i really love it. But i do have to agree that after looking at it again it would of been better without the border. To be fair to Zavvi, they are new at this and in time with positive constructive feedback they MIGHT take note and improve, if they dont then eventually there steelbooks will stop selling as well as they have been, so i would give them time. I have never had a single problem with them on any order and ive had most of what they have released delivered without fault. I hope my luck continues with them and they can give the same service to everyone that ive had so far. I do get nervous when they arrive because so many people have had trouble with damaged steels/canceled orders/early payments and poor aftercare but so far so good for me. I do think theres to many steels being released though, its kind of killing it a bit with the lack of uk competition Zavvi have all the exclusives, Shame amazon havent got in and taken some exclusives, do some 3D ones with inside art and send Zavvi a message.
