Hey guys! Wanted to share this with my fellow US & Canada members.

I suppose some of our European members can benefit from this as well.

I think this is very news worthy for all us steelbook collectors, so it deserves it's own thread for now. :scat:

I just got an order in from amazon.de and I was very surprised at the SIZE
of the box that appeared, just for 6 steelbooks. Well, it appears that for any
NEW release, that they haven't packaged up yet or a catalog release that might be on backorder (like my order of Judge Dredd was), they have a new box. EEK! :oohyeah:

We all remember that the package had been improved recently to bubble wrap inside a foldover box. :movie:

Well, now there is a new box, frustration free packaging, SPECIFICALLY labeled for steelbooks / metal packaging.

Pics below of the box, before opening and then after I opened it.

Had a willow damaged because of amazon's 'frustration inducing packaging'...

:yeahthat:

That's the right name for their steelbook packaging . And in my opinion, they should start writing that on the box from now on, because that is what the worthless packaging does - INDUCE FRUSTRATION

I received a damaged Taken 2, Resident Evil, Skyfall & Looper, all thanks to the amazon's frustration inducing packaging :(

I don't think they even read the packaging feedback left by the customers because I've been uploading pictures and leaving feedback for over a year now and getting replacements every time (even they come damaged), but they still continue to use the same packaging. Height of insensitivity :(

Shame on you Amazon!

Maybe its just me but 100% of my SB orders from amazon.ca has arrived damaged. I've come to the conclusion there must be a SB troll that lives in there warehouse whose only purpose in life if cause destruction to every SB before shipping.

Had a question for those who have more Amazon experience than I. I have ordered a couple of SBs that will be released on April 1st. After I placed that order, I found another that I considered purchasing. This one is listed as In Stock. I would like them all to ship together. How do I make that happen?

I have never tried to do it myself. But I think you'll have to contact the customer support from 'Help', and ask them if they can help you out. But since their policies are pretty much rigid, I highly doubt they'll charge you a combined shipping price, even if they agree to ship it together. Or they might charge you once and refund the difference later on (That's what they do when the preorder price decreases).

Help will written as 'Aide' on amazon.fr, 'Hilfe' on amazon.de, 'Ayuda' on amazon.es and 'Aiuto' on amazon.it. From there, you can look towards the right side for a yellowish button saying Contact Us in their respective language. After that, you just need to select your order and select the option of "Write to Us in English".

Good Luck with your order

short rant:

hate it when amazon.co.uk arbitrarily upgrades my shipping to express when I purposely choose standard

they think they are doing me a favor but they are not. with express shipping I will get hit with a massive brokerage bill from UPS

The last months I ordered a few times at Amazon.com so I can help a little bit.

They used MSI for expedited shipping and IPARCEL for expedited shipping with customs service (first time now on the Avengers Briefcase). The handling in Germany was made by DHL but I think in the UK it might be different. My experience is...

Amazon.ca to Germany: ~ 2-4 days
Amazon.com to Germany: ~ 6-8 days

Both with expedited shipping and without customs charge.

For UK/EU importers, how does amazon.com (USA) compare with amazon Canada?

Like amazon.ca might send out damaged goods or lame packing, but they have really good customer service to make up most times. Is amazon.com similar? Do they use really fast DHL like Canada?

Thanks :)

All amazon sites whether it is US, CA, DE or any other. They all have started using the so called "Frustration Free Packaging" which is actually a steelbook ruining machine, especially if the package will be traveling long distances and changing carriers/hands from one continent to another (in your case From US to EU).

As for the selection of goods, that is again the same on all amazon sites. The packaging guys just pick up the piece and package it up, without even realizing that there is a big dent in it. It's as if they have been genetically engineered to be insensitive :hilarious:

The customer service is also the same through all of their sites. They are ever ready to refund the whole amount or send out a replacement, but swear not to improve their packaging :hilarious:

Coming onto shipping, well here's the main difference. Amazon US would send all its goods via Aramex couriers. Though the shipping speed would depend on what you choose - Standard or Express, but I can tell you that even the standard is pretty fast. It always shows up at your door before the given date and in a relatively better condition than a package from any other amazon site :)
