Bateman Dripping In gloss. Just how I like it.
i think I’m going to have to try to import this somehow because if the U.K. gets it, it’s certainly not turning out like that

You know, I was impressed by this movie… but it is one of the most disturbing films I’ve ever seen.

But what I find more disturbing is how some men seem to have a fetishistic appreciation for this movie like it’s an aspiration. Pretty sure that’s not what the filmmaker (a woman, mind you) intended.

However, I wonder if I should revisit it on 4K or not. Good movie.

For example, I met a guy at SXSW once, who had an American Psycho themed business card. He proclaimed it his favorite film and said he’d seen it dozens of times. I didn’t want to be around that guy afterwards.

It’s one of those films that is really good (at least I think it is), but a lot of people miss the message and like it for the wrong reasons.

I once dated a girl who had watched Top Gun 99 times and wanted me to watch it with her for the 100th.

I didn’t want to be around that guy afterwards.

Same, I broke up with her after she said that.

The men that have a fetishistic appreciation for Bateman are the exact guys he is. It’s those guys that probably used the novel and film as a guidance. But I highly doubt they all become serial killers

But then I think it’s far from one of the most disturbing films I’ve seen. If anything it’s an excellent delve into mental health. I’ve seen it A LOT and there’s no red flags in that at all and i have 3 close friends all female that adore this film. One of them watches it as religiously as I watch the thing on a yearly basis. She also has no red flags. You can watch violent films and play violent games without it being an issue to anyone on the outside of your own skin and brain.

It’s one of those films that is really good (at least I think it is), but a lot of people miss the message and like it for the wrong reasons.

And there’s nothing wrong with loving a film or a character for the wrong reasons. I literally have loads of villains I love for the wrong reason. Anything can make someone interesting. Regardless of how savage they are

Those people are somewhat ironic, at least in terms of the social commentary intended by the book (which is far better than the movie, even though the movie is good).

That may seem disturbing, but there's just a lot of nuanced feelings this movie tends to, makes people associate with, or just like. But surely, out of 100 that only vent or dream through it, there might be 1 that acts it out. It might not be as successful or surreal for him, but it won't matter to you, if you're hacked with a saw or a hatchet.
That's the way I feel about ALL collectors of dozens of those horror movies, released in German mediabooks, I can't even look at some of the covers. Fetishistic torture porn, that they willingly and knowingly buy and watch. There's something wrong with them.
I did like all the Saw movies, but more the idea behind it, and the 'ten little indians' approach. That's where I would settle for censored versions.
Because I'm not a freak, offense intended. :wow:
But, you see, most of these people aren't bad, they're actually quite friendly and domicile. From a psychological point of view they're living such a comfortable, mundane life that something in them requires to compensate it with those movies. Most of them haven't seen anything that bad in real life, because if they did, they wouldn't want more stress... unless they're those freaks I mentioned.
Like in a recent movie, The Card Counter, one character had been a party to some torture, and now he can't even listen to metal rock. That's an emotionally damaged person in his own way, but just one example.
