Special announcement, April 15 2014
hey guys, official announcement from ES.

Hi,

Thank you for pre-ordering the Anchorman 2 SteelBook with the Entertainment Store.

We have received advanced copies of the product and have noticed that through the manufacturing process there has been a small amount of stretching on the corners of the SteelBook. We have been assured by the manufacturer of the SteelBook, Scanavo, that this is a manufacturing trait associated with the high gloss finished that has been used. Please see link below for an image of the stretching.

Whilst this is a manufacturing trait we do appreciate that for some customers this could potentially be a problem. We are contacting you ahead of shipping the product to highlight this trait to give you the opportunity to change your mind on your order before we ship you the product.

We will of course accept all returns and provide a full refund if you are unsatisfied with the product once your receive it in line with our standard terms and conditions.

Thank you for your custom,

The Entertainment Store

The back cover looks like it's more Gold than Yellow EEK!

It's clear that the issue has been queried and Scanavo have simply said that it is a manufacturing 'trait' rather than admitting it is a manufacturing 'defect'.

Agreed. I've never seen that before amongst my extensive 'glossy' Steelbook collection.

Great to see that ES cares about this release and notices that manufacture-defect. Thanks for the update Andy!

I have to say, thats damn good service from ES though... Well done ES

Thanks for the update ap :)

Agreed! I honestly couldn't imagine any other retailer passing this info on to its customers before release and risking many cancellations... we pretty much always have to discover these issues for ourselves once they eventually drop through our doors.

A big thumbs up to ES... I respect them a lot for being honest and giving us a heads up. I'll be keeping my order.

P.S. I probably wouldn't have even noticed the slight "stretching" mark to be honest.

Going by that close up the front looks super glossy

And that looks like a pretty minor concern on the corner so I'll be keeping mine on order

Hoping for actual (full) pics very soon

Yeah thumbs up to ES for that. They could have easily not said anything really as that photo is zoomed in close so it probably will be quite hard to see in realitly. However I was on the fence about keeping my order before this as the price was always a little steep for me for a 4k print run and non 3D movie ;)

If it was an Asian release everyone would be spuffing in their pants but because its not the frumpy humpy brigade rears its head. I'm sure I've read a million times on this forum people saying they'd pay more for quality but its all talk and no bollocks. I'm having one.

I was prepared to pay more for quality but scanavo cocked it up (however small a defect) cos we know now thanks to scanavo there will never be a mint AM2 ES steel because they can't really do quality ' they have issues'.

Totally agree well done ES for been upfront and honest.

I think this sheds a bit of light on Scanvo and their issues with gloss finish. I would hazard a guess that this maybe due to tighter restrictions in EU regarding solvent based paints and why we've had so many matte releases in UK. While I believe blufans and Kimchi releases are manufactured in China were restrictions may not be as stringent. I'm just glad to see more glossy steels being released in UK although not perfect it's better than non at all.

I'll be keeping my order in as I'd sooner live with the slight defect and it be glossy than have yet another dull matte finish steel in my collection. :scat:

To be fair, I have no problem with such a small manufacturing issue and well done to ES for disclosing it prior to dispatch. What I do however have a problem with, is the ridiculous and unjustifiably high price.

This will not sell out on pre-order, so if collectors were to hold off buying, then the price would come down some way and everyone could pick it up for less. The alternative is to keep your pre-order, and post comments of complaint when it's selling for £16.99.

Are we only allowed to post pro-Entertainment Store and pro-Scanavo comments in this thread?

If we could keep to just pro snoo cooments in this thread I think everyone would be happy ;) :p

KIDDING

seriously tho - anyone remember the mess with Terminator 3 or Body of Lies and staple dents from amazon.de?

SURPRISE, SURPRISE. That was a lot of fun back then. :(

at least you guys know ahead of time... :dunno:

Doesn't bother me too much it could be worse and I appreciate them being upfront with their customers but I recon they should reduce the price as a measure of good will? They replaced the whole print run with Jack Reacher but i understand that would be a lot of work on their part.

I won't be getting the steelbook myself at this price because I think it's too expensive. The fact that ES have been upfront that there is a defect is good on their part and should be commended. They could have just kept it quiet and not bothered mentioning anything. At least this way you know what you are getting.
