Special announcement, April 15 2014
hey guys, official announcement from ES.

Hi,

Thank you for pre-ordering the Anchorman 2 SteelBook with the Entertainment Store.

We have received advanced copies of the product and have noticed that through the manufacturing process there has been a small amount of stretching on the corners of the SteelBook. We have been assured by the manufacturer of the SteelBook, Scanavo, that this is a manufacturing trait associated with the high gloss finished that has been used. Please see link below for an image of the stretching.

Whilst this is a manufacturing trait we do appreciate that for some customers this could potentially be a problem. We are contacting you ahead of shipping the product to highlight this trait to give you the opportunity to change your mind on your order before we ship you the product.

We will of course accept all returns and provide a full refund if you are unsatisfied with the product once your receive it in line with our standard terms and conditions.

Thank you for your custom,

The Entertainment Store

I won't be getting the steelbook myself at this price because I think it's too expensive. The fact that ES have been upfront that there is a defect is good on their part and should be commended. They could have just kept it quiet and not bothered mentioning anything. At least this way you know what you are getting.

You only know what you're getting if you happen to revisit the product web page, or read this thread. I have a copy on order, but I haven't received an email from ES notifying me of the defect. That's not what I call being upfront.

Well it is on the product order page so I'm not sure what more they can do. They could send out emails to everyone who pre-ordered but I would imagine that is a painful job and a lot of people who aren't really Steelbook collectors wouldn't even notice the flaw.

Great to see that ES cares about this release and notices that manufacture-defect. Thanks for the update Andy!

I think the only thing ES cares about is getting a load of complaints and returns. At least this way they've covered their own arse and could say tough, we did warn you when people complain. Besides I don't think their returns department is big enough to coupe with the onslaught in one go.

I cancelled my copy weeks ago, due to the price and I haven't seen either film yet. I may think about it and pick this up in the Christmas sale.

Have to say I am the biggest moaner out there but I have found their returns department excellent when I've had to deal with them , right up there with Amazon.

As for the size of their returns department, well none of us have the slightest idea do we so that's pure conjecture - they sell a lot more than steelbooks though.

I probably would have never even of noticed the defect haha... but it doesn't bother me - i'm not buying to sell or trade - it's just for me! But decent of them to be up front and let people know.

I think this below quote from their announcement suggests otherwise, and that they are prepared to take the item back even after this very thoughtful heads up:

We will of course accept all returns and provide a full refund if you are unsatisfied with the product once your receive it in line with our standard terms and conditions.

Strange comment that you make about their returns dept though. Even when they first started a year a go or so and they had the manufacturing 'line' on the Jack Reacher Steelbook, they still dealt with the whole situation professionally and in good time (better than many established retailers imo). It's safe to say they have probably grown in size somewhat since then so I'd have no reason to question their ability now either.

Btw - just got an email through from them explaining the situation so they look to have covered all basis making sure everyone who has ordered this Steelbook is aware of the issue.

I just got the email aswell :)

Thanks again to ES for being up front with this - I'll stick with my order as I prefer having a stand alone steelbook for my movies. :movie:

On the bright side, I think this is still a great release and let's give this little anchorman steelbook the support it deserves! ;)

I reckon about 97% of people wouldn't have noticed anything if nothing was said, but now everybody will be scrutinising their SteelBook when they receive it. WHat I find ridiculous is that there are actually some people who would be concerned about something minor like this! Scratches and unexplainable dents are one thing, but manufacturing flaws occur and you just have to accept that - especially if they occur across the board

Yet the one thing which should concern people is the ridiculous price, considering the fact that this is NOT an "ultra limited release" (standard 4,000 print run), and is NOT a 3D release either, therefore has no right to be over £20.00!

Hats off to Entertainment Store for the eMail notification though, as that seems to be more than Zavvi can manage to do for their customers...

Would have only taken 1 or 2 people on this forum to notice the issue and then everybody would have been checking, and then the GB hosts would have noticed it on all their copies and mayhem for them too. So ES have done the right thing here.

Exactly what hayemaker said. :yeahthat:

Isn't that what happened with their Jack Reacher steelbook? Someone somehow managed to notice the faint line (printing error) on the front and posted about it on here, so everyone else checked their copies under microscopes (including myself :p) and all hell broke lose! That was just another instance where ES responded very professionally and gave all customers FREE replacement copies. :notworthy:

had the mail today hats off for them coming forward and people the option, It shows decent customer communication and service imho just a shame zavvi couldn't learn to do some of this its where it should be going.
I for one will be keeping mine it's not an issue.

10 brownie points ES

Manufacturing defects don't bother me if no perfect one exists. I still consider it "mint" seeing as how it's out of the collectors hands and not necessarily the fault of a person.

Nice of them to give us a heads up, then again for £26 I think they owe it to us! Just because Zavvi decide not to, doesn't mean no other retailer should be in their shoes.
