We're only six months into 2013 though and already Zavvi are only 10 behind the number Play released in 2012. At the rate they're going they are well on track to surpass Play already this year.
Not necessarily. We effectively have a full calendar up until October. That leaves November and December. The numbers I posted include all released and upcoming Zavvi exclusives, even ones without release dates. That means Zavvi still have to schedule:
Anchorman
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
The Italian Job (likely to be released in 2014 according to Wreck)
Jackie Brown
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Plus ten more new titles to beat Play.com's total from last year. It's certainly possible but not guaranteed.
That wasn't my point anyway. The point is that a lot of comments are suggesting Zavvi are ruining Steelbook collecting when in reality that haven't done a great deal differently to Play.com. A handful of new releases, a few re-releases and a tonne of catalogue titles. The only criticism they deserve is on price, then again if it means they won't have the same fate as Play.com, then I would rather pay the extra.
On topic: I'll definitely be buying this barring any major balls up with the artwork. This was one which a lot of people have asked for, so it's good to see Zavvi listening.
