Collectors: Can go crazy with multiples, or tons of steels of the same movie etc. Also will seek out or trade for rare ones they missed out on.

Selectors: Most have or want to own only select steelbooks that they see

So which one are you?

Selector(s): That there is trademarked, not to be used without written permission of Ricky Bobby, Inc. :hilarious:

I can't possibly buy everything thats out there or will be out there - neither can I afford it, nor can I possibly watch (or want to watch) everything out there. I buy movies for personal watching, so that prolly means I'm a selector?

Selector

Will only buy films ill actually watch not just because its a steelbook

although if its a film i really like and multiple countries have different artwork i may purchase these if i can afford it and the artwork is completely different

I hardly buy any steel books , as most of them are donated to me from other members , but I only Collect steel books that I like & any that are Valuable as well..

ie, I hate Batman , but I got most of their steels , mainly because of the Collect ability Factor !!

Collector :)

I am a both though probably more of a collector. Whilst most of the films I own are ones I enjoyed or wanted to see, I have bought a few because the artwork was great or because it was really cheap. In other words I'll buy any old tat just because it's a Steelbook :hilarious:

Selector. It depends how the steelbook looks like and if I like the movie. But sometimes I also buy steelbooks where the movie is bad but the steelbook looks great... :p

Selector -

I generally buy a steelbook for the movie if i like it, sometimes i will buy a steelbook if the artwork is amazing though and thats even if the movie is tosh...

I started out as a collector and obsessed..now i have controlled my addiction.lol

I am now a SELECTOR purchasing only my favourite films or ones that have great artwork

I'd love to be able to go for every steelbook available, but the reality is that I have to be careful how many I buy and try and choose between the best films and nicest steelbooks available, so, I'm firmly a selector.

Definitely a selector. I would never buy a film I didn't like just because its in a Steelbook. I may have been pushed over the edge with some films I was on the fence about because of the Steelbook release so i took a chance on them. If I know for definite that I don't like the film then I won't buy it no matter how nice the Steelbook is!

I think the first choice - 'collector' is going to be quite difficult to maintain as there are hundreds of steels released every month that no one can keep up!

I am a selector. Before I collected steels I only wanted, then turned to hunt all the grails. Now I have decided to become a 'casual' 'selector'.

Is that really true? :naughty::hilarious:

I bet there is at least one steel in your collection that you got for the steel only!

It really is Sunny! I can honestly say there's not one film in my collection that I really don't like. I have a few that are just average and i have been swayed by the steelbook but I won't buy something I don't like. A good example is Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity 3, they are some great looking steels but I can't stand the movies so I passed on them!:D

Start a collector in everything I collect, become a selector very quickly due to credit limits, bills, food on the table and a roof over my head to store said collectables, or selectables.

Im a selective collector ;)

I dont see the point of buying a film I dont like just because its in fancy packaging, now Im not saying I dont own films I dont like (blind buys for example), but Ive never intentionally bought a film I dont like just because its in attractive packaging

I like films, I like to own the films I like, and I like to own where possible nice editions of films I like, or at least the best edition I can afford, weather its a steelbook or boxset, now as we all know a steelbook isnt always the best version of a film available (missing extra features disks, maybe missing an alternate cut or whatever) but that a whole different story..

Ive passed on more steelbooks than I bought over the past few months, I didnt buy any of the warner wave of white steels, only a couple of the Play.com horizontal ones, none of the disney/Buena Vista ones nor Ted, Snow White and the Huntsman, etc etc. Some were films I didnt like, some were films I like but not enough to buy again, and others were and still are way too expensive (Ted for example ..Im not paying £20 for it...if it ever goes down to below £15 Id be tempted)

So yes, Im a collector, but not an obsessive one and within a reasonable budget

Until the last summer I was a collector and bought almost everything that's from Scanavo. Then I hated it that every filth was released in a Steelbook (especially in Germany) and then I turned to a selector. I sold about 150 german Steelbooks and now I only collect foreign Steelbooks that I like.
