Are people forgetting that whatever the artwork or lenti that is provided with these steelbooks, it is NOT a 'craft' of sorts to Zavvi, The Hut group or their associated businesses like it is to Manta or FA for example. Zavvi are a former high street retailer. They churn out anything and everything. They aren't a 'steelbook specific' business. It is not their selling point. Whoever approves the artwork for their steelbooks likely sees it as 'just another day' or 'business as usual' and aren't going to change the way these steels are manufactured (through the companies they deal with) or how they are presented to us, they are what they are. Yes they aren't very good at what they do with steels because we all demand perfection but how a lenti doesn't line up with the main image of the steel for example isn't a big deal to them and they wouldn't listen to us like Manta does. The way they trade goods and services is a whole different ballgame.

These steels might be overpriced to you when you see the end result but once again, it is not a 'craft' to them and they don't spend precious hours getting things to look right or presenting us with the latest image of the progression of the steelbook or the advertising of a fullslip compared to a lenti etc etc. They are just simple, everyday bog standard releases (like other blurays and dvds) and most of them are pretty decent for what our expectations are always going to be.

Surely you can be thankful the option is there to buy from them worldwide, because it is just that... an option.

Did they create it on paint ?

Why would they do that ? It's not about lacking talent this time it's just about being like :

The front is good and the back artwork looks nice (the finish) so it's even more irritating that they did such an awful job with the cropping... the inside artwork is not only terrible cos of the cropping but also the quality of the print itself is the worst I've ever seen on the inside of a steelbook.

Sorry about the angle of the pic, I was getting a lot of reflection off the steel shells, and the flash went straight over his eye... I should take up photography :emb:

If you're saying what I think you're saying - that all steelbooks that Zavvi sells are "rotten" - then what in God's name are you even doing in a Zavvi steelbook thread?

You may not be aware but FYI there are literally hundreds of absolutely gorgeous U.K. steelbooks sold not just by Zavvi or HMV or Amazon and now by Zoom . . . and I take it personally when people like you and those of your ilk come on these U.K. threads and run down U.K. steelbook . . . and it beggars belief that people think it logical and sensible to compare a 23 quid steelbook to one that costs twice as much with slipcovers etc. At least compare like for like or wait until U.K. steelbooks cost 50 quid and then and only them make your comparisons or else all comparisons are odious.

I don't need to list or post images of great U.K. steelbooks but a handful of my favourites won't do any harm:-

I agree, we have to remember they don't specialise in making edition for us serious collectors who have high expectations for their collections, to them its just simply repackaging it differently to sell it to the ordinary public, its not Plain Archive or Meta Lab.

lenti is garbage, but at least the front steelbook art is pretty good if you discard the lenti, embossed title as well, but alas, I'm not double dipping, the film was a noisy mess with too much going on with way too many characters, just couldn't handle it.

If you haven't got the first steel, definitely get this, bin the lenti and you have a decent steel.

Blige, a little touchy aren't we? I'm only commenting on Zavvi's recent lenti wave, not ALL uk steels.

What am i doing in this thread? The same thing i'm doing in the AOU blufans thread - I'm a Marvel fan. The last time i checked this was a forum for discussion.

Oh, and don't call any product comparison "odious", as someone else already mentioned, this release is only a fiver cheaper than the average FAC.

Jeez Louise, short succinct replies really aren't your thing are they.

If I sold you a rotten apple from my market stall, I would expect an earful. If all my apples were rotten then maybe I should be having a word with my supplier.

I love the fact all he got from your example are zavvi sells bad steels

And then carries on to post pointless images not in a spoiler

I took the lenticular magnet off the front of mine and the front of the steelbook looks so much better with out it.

All the ones I own in the marvel wave I've done the same

Lenti has come off and I've put them inside.

I just find it disappointing that with so many Marvel movies, they have great posters to choose from, yet for the first release Disney goes for the dullest, most uninspired design they can, whack a load of faces on the spine and calls it a day. Zavvi then gets the inevitable re-release that at least gets a title on it, but still gets screwed up somehow or another. I get the whole titleless thing, even though personally I don't think other countries would really care if it was in English. Maybe Disney should leave the title off the front regardless and just have different spines added for each region.

If I was in charge of the designs I'd do all of them the same...

Theatrical poster art on the front
Centralized title on the spine with the Marvel logo at the top and Blu-ray logo at the bottom
Appropriate rear image (central character, group shot, still, that kind of thing)
Embossed title on the front or no embossing if they were all title free
Gloss finish
And they would all be Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray and DVD combi's (yes, I like a DVD included)

It's not just the Marvel titles that suffer. Disney animation, Pixar and Star Wars all get shafted. Just imagine how The Force Awakens would have looked with that red and blue poster, nice and glossy and the title on the spine.

I think the biggest problem though, is that we don't get an exact mock up of how the finished product will look. for this we didn't even get a mock up of the back or inside art.

It's kind of a blind buy.
