That's great in theory, but how many retailer do that in reality?
Zavvi have an image of the front (sans lenti) and spine. That picture is accurate. Anyone ordering it should be able to base their decision on that image. In that regards, you've got what you've paid for. Like any steelbook, or indeed amaray, you take the chance the rest of it looks as good as you hope it will. Sometimes it does, other times it doesn't.
You can't expect any retailer to be 100% accurate with the image on their site, although God knows I wish you could. All any retailer does is put up the image they're supplied with, nothing more, nothing less. Amazon only has 'real' pictures if a reviewer or third-party seller has put one up. Believe me, I've ordered plenty of steelbooks only to be disappointed by the finished result from pretty much every online retailer. Them's the breaks, as they say.
Put it this way, when I ordered the UK Man of Steel steelbook back in the day, not a single website (that I looked at) showed it with 3D plastered on the front, but it still had it. Colour me annoyed.
Sorry but most steelbook listings have all artwork posted at some point before it is due out. And we should see all artwork before money is taken. Would you buy a car by seeing just a picture of the door? Or a house by seeing one room?
I'd say we should know most details art, finish etc before release date. It's not a lucky bag we are buying after all.
I don't want to start an argument, and certainly we should be able to see exactly what we're getting before parting with our hard earned cash, but it's often not the case. I've simply typed 'steelbook' into Amazon.co.uk to see what came up (and stuck to page 1 only), and here are a few examples of steelbooks that have been released (some a while ago) that still don't show the full package...
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - no rear art...

London Has Fallen - no real art at all...

E.T. - no rear or spine art...

The Burning - no rear art...

As I said, yes, in an ideal world you'd know exactly what you're getting but sometimes we just don't.
But surely they must know the information. Especially zavvi who are selling this as an exclusive.
1) What Zavvi recent lenticular wave? You're calling 4 steelbooks releases a wave?! (ANT-MAN, AGE OF ULTRON, THE HULK and THE INCREDIBLE HULK). I suppose it can be described as a wave comparable to the lenticular wave of something like 8 steelbooks from the tail-end of 2015 IF and only if you include those few that have not yet been released - i.e. the upcoming 3 SPIDER-MAN steels and the 2 from Disney LION LING and FINDING NEMO - thus making a grand total of 9 and then worthy of the "wave" title.
It goes without saying that we don't know how those 5 (or more than half of the recent wave) are going to look in the flesh so maybe a tad early jumping the gun and condemning them IMO.
Of the lenticular steelbook releases in the U.K. this year "Ant-Man" and "Ultron" are clearly and without doubt the least successful.
The 2 "Hulk" steelbooks have brilliant full height lentis.
The 2 "Spider-Man" steels from HMV have equally brilliant (framed) lentis.
Fingers crossed for amazing lentis on the three SM steels and the 2 Disney animation steels (whether they be full height or framed).
2) Yes indeed . . . quite so.
3) If you check back a few pages you'll see that someone paid 52 quid for the BF steelbook as against
Why would they? Zavvi are the retailer, nothing more.
Here's some HMV exclusives which feature only the front/spine art (same as Zavvi's Age of Ultron). Are we to expect they should also have every last bit of information too, or do they get a pass because they're not Zavvi? I'm not saying you're a Zavvi-hater, but they get a lot of flack for things like this when many other retailers don't.

I'm saying every retailer should give the info out. Surly they have it. This lenti wave is Zavvi Exclusive, not just a UK exclusive bit a world wide exclusive. Of course they should know what they are selling. They know that the Dr Strange steelbook will have the title on the spine, and the artwork has not even been passed. Strange eh?
I don't think that by and large, retailers do have that specific information.
Zavvi do know what they're selling. They're selling Marvel steelbook re-releases. What they, or any other online retailer, don't know are the complete ins and outs of the product. Zavvi probably ask for these titles specifically, but from that point on Disney are in full control. They design it, get it produced, send Zavvi any details (which they then list) and then finally the product. If Disney only send images of the front and spine, that's the end of it. Sure Zavvi could ask for full images, but, as with HMV's examples, probably don't care enough or see the point.
As for Doctor Strange, Zavvi, and indeed Disney are well aware of the unhappiness that surrounds their titleless spines, so maybe Zavvi (and/or other online retailers) have contacted Disney about it and finally they've listened. Who knows? Only time will tell if Disney titles have them going forward. I wouldn't be surprised if Doctor Strange still has pictures on the spine.
Amazon almost never have any details for the steelbooks they sell and European amazon's get a lot of exclusives.Neither do FNAC or Media Markt .Fair enough, you're not going to get the point.
Sure they are just retailers, but they ain't selling tins of beans, they are selling so called collectors items.
The thing is Zavvi sells thousands of products. Why would they go to the such trouble to appease a few dozen anal collectors on a forum?

Considering the amount of different collectable items they sell in their online shop to all us anal geeks you'd think they'd behave appropriately and show us everything they have on sale in extreme anal detail
It's true a lot of other retailers don't show the info, it's just more noticeable when the home of steelbook's do it when they release the most steelbook's in the UK.
The front on this does look good, I'm just gonna forget the rest exists but I will be more careful what I choose to buy in future, for no other reason than £25 is a lot for me to spend so blindly. I'm not having a dig at them with that comment it's just a fact for me that I need to cut back.. especially when I don't 100% know what I'm buying.
Exactly this. Antman was a nice surprise, although still has issues on the front. This is not a nice surprise, front looks ridiculous with the lenti on (I even think the embossing looks poor) the back is a cropped mess and the inside ..................
I agree, especially about the embossing, it's just not very pronounced.. I've thought that about other embossed tittled steels too.. funny how sometimes they get it so right and other times its just so wrong
I guess it's the luck of the draw. Or like a box of chocolates as old Forrest says.

Oh..... my........ God!!! Just turned up and as much as the photos and comments help tremendously for those that are undecided or still waiting to get it, it really is until you have this in hand when you look at it in the flesh and you think.... what an absolute turd! And I'm all out of polish! It's going back to Zavvi! As much as I have all the Zavvi marvel Lenti wave, THIS is not joining them.
Gob smackingly awful!![]()
That bad eh'?
Glad I didn't pull through trigger on this one...
