Notice the question mark??

I also said that there can be a fine line between what is considered scalping and not.

You sure are getting ultra defensive about it............

You weren't asking a question, you were implying. You don't ask a question then give the answer in the same line whether it ends with a '?' or not unless you are implying something

Who the f*** started this scalper debate?? :wtf:

Someone posted some ebay links to some single edition copies of AOU on eBay which were initially stamped as scalping until realisation set in that the total cost was less than a shipped copy direct from retailer and therefore not scalping. The debate started when I questioned why the term scalper was so quick to be thrown at there and the many common circumstances that happen here where people get branded scalpers when they aren't infact scalping at all

Not trying to get into an argument here but I've seen this topic debated on HDN for years. Here's my take on it.

End of the day, it's a free market. Someone wants to buy something at a stupid price, let them. That's on them. It's about taking responsibility. It gets me when people say that people are forced to buy at high prices. No-one ever forced me to buy anything. If the price is too high then wait it out for an auction. If something continually sells for a high price, that's the market value. For someone to say you should sell it for cost when it's worth way more is insane in my opinion and they're just trying to get a good deal for themselves. Fair enough, but don't act hurt if you get turned down.

This hobby is expensive at the best of times and I don't begrudge someone buying one or two more to sell to offset the cost of future purchases. If you buy loads of the same thing to sell then that's more a moral thing than anything else. To say they're preventing real collectors buying them seems a fallacy. Everyone has an opportunity to buy online (unless there's some behind the scenes dealings going on). For limited edition items there's no guarantee that a 'real collector' is gonna grab it. People will always complain because someone will always miss out when demand exceeds supply. Every limited item has the same issue, gig tickets, Lego, Hot toys, even food, energy and water. Is it fair? No. But the world's not fair.

Who said that was scalping?

We are just going in circles. It was a question I also gave reasoning to why I questioned it. Did I say to you, you are a scalper? I have noticed you saying similar things in other threads, hence the reason why I said you seem to defend what could be classed as scalping.

You see people on this site that split their one clicks and pass them on at reasonable prices to people who missed out, which is nice, it is a community and all that. I'm guessing many just want to profit as much as possible.

I have never defended people buying multiple copies and listing them for obscene prices on here or on eBay, that is a just a fact.

Who defines the price of a one click exclusive version? For example the Manta MOS lenti magnet version to which there were only 300? Do you simply just split the total cost of the set by 3 and voila? I don't think it's that simple especially as that's a rarer and specific edition exclusive to the one click, what about the Nova T2 quarter slip or even the quarter slip Doctor Strange by blufans. There's a niche market of people who only collect quarter slips and if there isn't a solo retail price for it then who is it to say what it's worth? Whenever I sell something my auctions start at 99p and I put the control in the bidders hands, sometimes I make a profit and sometimes I make a loss, it is what it is bare in mind I lose 13% straight away.

@Covcraig

(Fast forward 4 posts...)

Then...
That's actually ever so slightly cheaper than the price direct from Nova, isn't it?
$47 on Nova, $12.62 shipping = $59.62
vs. $52 ebay, $7 shipping = $59

That guy is losing money lol

Pretty sure that seller is in business with the Korean retailers, he/she always has multiple copies of new releases. Sometimes they aren't even listed with the retailer title or even as steelbooks. It's very strange and it would be nice if someone from Kimchi or Novamedia could shed some light on it.

Yeah, especially when after fees they'll be looking at around a $8-10 loss, I think. Definitely something fishy going on. But helps others out and they're not scalping, so fair enough, I suppose.

Then... :naughty:
Scalping is a broad stroke term that gets thrown around alot here. Is it only scalping when someone buy something and sells on for a profit intentionally ie these overpriced eBay listings? What if someone bought an extra copy and listed at 99p and it went up and over retail price, still scalping?
What if someone buys a one click for two out three editions and sells the extra one and the box, is that considered scalping too?

I think you started it :p:LOL:

Y'all need to grow up about this 'scalper' debate. It's so old now and something that you cannot stop.
The fact is, if somebody wants to buy up lots of copies of something and then split them up, sell them on, hike up the price etc then they can! There is no requirement for anybody to follow any rules on this.
Is it morally wrong? Only to those who oppose it. Is it illegal? Not in the slightest.
Is it a free market? You bet'cha!
Am I personally for it? Not really, but do I care that much? Most definitely not.
Infact, let me throw this at you...

Lets say Blufans sells out all of its Dr Strange releases and I missed out on it as a collector but everybody else who wanted one had got one and they had them all delivered to their homes and unboxed them and posted photos and vids and put them neatly on their shelves with a nice little bow and glitter on them to keep forever and ever... Would I ever get a copy? No I would not.

Hold that thought.

Now lets say all of them did the same again except for a quarter (random amount) of those people, who then decided instead to split up their one clicks or pick out their individual copies and put them up on ebay to sell. Baring in mind here I still do not own a copy myself.

"Oh my gosh... look at that... on ebay... a copy of Dr Strange Blufans... the one I have wanted and missed out on ever since it was announced"

Boom. I purchase it.

Was it overpriced? Yes.
Did the seller gain a few pounds (and I don't mean in weight)? Yes.
Did I get my copy? Yes.
Did I have the choice not to buy it? Yes.

Hold on a second... everybody is happy!

The end.

You were the one that complained that someone mentioned the word scalper. Like you felt you had to defend yourself over it.

Lol, Keep telling yourself that mate.

I was responding to the fact that just because it turns out the ebay seller was gonna be $8-10 out of pocket, that its okay cause its not scalping. So if someone made $10 on top that is scalping? Thats barely anything. When it comes to these quick sell outs and people missing out the first thing people do to vent their anger is to curse the so called scalpers. Some dude did it in a group on fb this morning, he tried joining his first blufans gb on the other site and failed miserablely and then took to ebay to try pointing out the so called scalpers.

All I had to say on the matter is this..
