That seems really silly, I watched those reruns as a child and can't see how anybody could confuse the two.

Although, my dad and me got them confused just a few weeks ago... I was telling him about the new Avengers film and he starts rambling on about how he used to watch the TV series when he was younger. Obviously I was like , and so was he once I started going on about Hulk and Iron Man etc.

I think I read somewhere it is because the Avengers film (think it had Sean Connery in it) was soooooooo bad that they dont want to be associated with such a turkey.

my bad. When HMV put it up, they mentioned it was only an Exclusive. I can now see it has been changed to HMV Exclusive.

This was the reason I didnt pre-order it at first.

It's the same movie. Avengers Assemble = The Avengers that's being sold in the US or Germany among other countries.

In the UK "The Avengers" was a TV Series in the 60's, see here and there was a re-vamped version in 70's called "The New Avengers", see here. There was a subsequent film in 1998 with Ralph Fiennes, Uma Thurman and Sean Connery which was DIRE and so in UK they cannot use the title The Avengers and they had to change it.
