With HMV I had 2 on pre-order and cancelled, then order 1 again .... worth keeping or just sell it on?

The embossing on just the "A" on the front might make it worthwhile to keep I'm thinking.

Just got my e-mail saying it's been dispatched! Hopefully it won't take too long, and it'll arrive well packaged!

Even if I had a 3D TV I still wouldn't buy an edited version

You may have seen the edited version in the movie theaters as well, as it appears to have been shown in some. It's such a small edit...I really don't see how you can be so against something like this.

I assume it's just a weird principle that people don't want edited versions...just like we all want steelbooks instead of normal versions :naughty:.

@Dino Last, you sir, are showing cognitive dissonance.

That's simple not true I am intending to get a 3D TV next year, and I have ordered many Blu-rays that have the 3D version in them like the Tron Disc all the way from America. The only thing that stopped me getting that German set is the edit which is not the version I saw at the cinema. As I said before if the Indy collector's edition had the cut version of Temple of Doom I would have passed on that too.

that small edit can change quite a few things actually

In the UK version (which did show the blade sticking through), It was Coulson's death that got the Avengers to finally assemble. An emotional scene because he was a fan favourite of the series

In the German / Swedish, Italian etc version, because the blade doesn't stick right through his chest, and the fact that you don't actually see Coulson on screen for the rest of the film, who's to say that he doesn't survive? that's the rumor going round at the moment (because nothing was said when it was showing at cinemas) that Disney edited that scene after it was released at cinemas so they could bring the character back in later films due to backlash from the fans

as for censorship, i'm not sure what everyone elses opinion is but i'm not quite fond of a suit sitting in an office dictating what i can and what i cannot view.

Hmm, I don't remember what I saw in the Dutch movie theathers, so I figure it's not a big deal for me. Regarding the plot, I feel like it's a little overdone. If they'd really want to bring the character back, I'm sure they wouldn't have left the UK-version un-edited.

What was the reason to edit it in the first place?

I'm keeping this one as I prefer not to use my Australian 3-disc. I'd rather store away the Aussie version and use the HMV one instead. Both are the same steelbooks, and I prefer to wear out the disc of the HMV version. Out of all the SB's/metalboxes I'm collecting for Avengers, the HMV will be on the blu-ray shelf for people to touch, others go in my SB Vault :)

and as for the 3D / 2D comment that frequently comes up across all forums

we're all adults aren't we. I like 3D films and own a 3D TV as well but i don't force my views on anyone else as we all have different preferences. Just because I like 3D films, i don't expect to get into heated conversations on whether the format is any good. I bought my 3DTV with my own money. no one elses. If you prefer the 2D option of 3D films, that' your choice. I respect that but please don't argue with other members who do support the format. Same goes for 3D supporters as well.

Now if you want to get into arguments about 2D / 3D, i'll quite kindly point you to a bashing thread on another forum but you won't find one on this forum.....ever!

now since this topic is about the 2D UK steelbook of The Avengers, can we get back on topic please. there are other threads on the forum for other Avengers steelbooks containing the 3D version

Thank you :)

So is this version the only one with the "A" embossed compared to the other regions?

Yes as far as most European releases and Aussie releases go. They're all steelbooks and all the same (slightly embossed A, with character portraits on the spine). Number of discs vary per country. So the number of plastic holder slots on the inside are different. inside art is the same.

Asian + USA/Canadian releases are the metal packs (So the number of plastic holder slots on the inside are different). inside art is the same.

What was the reason to edit it in the first place?

Could be to do with the film rating/classification bodies in holland, germany etc that caused the edited cut to be released. They're probably simply stricter when it comes to rating films/games etc.

So perhaps when the FSK rating was given for the finished version of the film they gave it the 16 rating. whenever a film is given a rating they state what scenes/moments caused the rating. and provide the information to the films distributor.

Obviously Disney wanted to make avengers a film with the 12 rating across the globe. To ensure they get the biggest possible audience and as a result more money. So when disney hear some european countries are gonna give it a higher rating, they edit the film enough to ensure the film gets the rating they're after.

It's quite common, films and games that get a 12 rating in the uk often end up with higher ratings in other countries, sometimes the flm/game makers buckle and edit their product slightly to maximise the audience that can get their product. Others refuse to change their product. Obviously with something on the scale of avengers, the difference between releasing the film as a 12 and a 16 is £millions . So disney would probably change it without too much hesitation.

also the metal packs have the words "marvel avengers" (embossed) across the horizontal part of the letter A, instead of the letter A being embossed. plus the spine says avengers rather than having the characters faces.

i prefer the steelbook, but both r nice :)

I prefer the steelbook myself, but doesn't hurt (financially, if feasible) to have both. First time I've ever duodecuple dipped.

Australia + 1 (equal to Singapore preference due to it being SB and Hindi language option)
USA + 2 (Target exclusive cover + best buy metal pack)
Canada + 1
UK + 1
Singapore + 1 (highest preference)
Thailand + 1
USA Collector set (Spring 2013) = 5 movies

My order status still showing "Item pre-ordered - not yet issued by supplier". What?! I ordered early, come on HMV you useless turd of a supplier!

Mine is 'on its way'. I have never bought duplicates. I either have an open steelbook or the amaray version. But for this series I have got all five lead in films as Steels plus Avengers Singapore and UK steels. Thinking about buying the Avengers bluray boxset as well.
