I get what you're saying but it's been a while since we had great steels like the Play.com ones and other fantastic ones. It just gets a bit frustrating when, with all respect, people always mention the premium editions when they're almost double the price.

Back in the day steelbooks were no better than what we have now . . . only seem so to those that only like original poster art used as steelbook designs.

As we all know creative / fresh designs are usually reserved for subsequent releases and are nice to have as companions to the originals (IMO).

Recent first class steelbooks (UK) would include:
- JUMAMJI and Mondo THE INCREDIBLES (January, 2018)
- BULLITT (February, 2018)
- PADDINGTON 2, the two Studio Ghiblis and THE HOWLING (March, 2018)
- GREASE and TERMINATOR GENISYS futurepak (April, 2018)
- COCO, MINORITY REPORT and RAGING BULL (May, 2018)
- The other two Studio Ghiblis and THE SHAPE OF WATER (June, 2018)
- FIGHT CLUB (July, 2018)
- PREDATOR (August, 2018)

- MEET THE ROBINSONS, AVENGERS and ULTRON (September, 2018)
- EVIL DEAD 2 (October, 2018)

It's a bit of a 'get off my lawn' pose by Thanos
Right?
Lol

It needs some work/improvements, but I made a test slip for this using my design - I'm hoping to sell them once I've perfected the process (whenever that may be) if anyone's interested.

A class work as always but still too busy for my liking.

Can see this looking good as a lenti rather than standard slip. Depth seems like it would solve the squished feel by inserting visual space in at least one dimension.

Nonsense.

“Back in the day” we didn’t have constant rereleases of the same movies. “Back in the day” we weren’t plagued by poorly executed pop art.

Heck, in some cases steels were priced the same as their amaray counterparts.... back in the day.
£10.99 Iron Man steels Fromm Play are still some of my faves.
Half regret selling IM1 for the Kimchi version when I only wanted the lenti slip version. Probably should have swapped out the steels in hindsight.

Then some surprises like Cloverfield were great. Or the simplistic Little Mermaid are some stunners IMO(though spot gloss or a glitter/metallic effect is missing from the latter)
Then the ones with Double/Triple play or the blu- banners at the top(think UK’s first, Swedey Todd) and we got a few turkeys.

Steelbooks were precisely "were no better than what we have now", there are good and bad examples from now and then (and everywhere inbetween).

The only reason we have constant re-releases now is because some people feel they need to own them all, so it's their fault.

They were certainly cheaper then, however, which is the only reason I think they were better back in the day.

will this come back in stock? TIA
Very likely yes when Zavvi make available canceled orders done by customers and orders they canceled due to failed payments and card fruad detection

Zavvi don't have live stock control system so cancelled orders have to be manually put back on system this is usually done after release date

In truth steelbooks were not cheaper when they first appeared on the scene and the HMV and Amazon prices are comparable to today's prices . . . main difference of course being that discs were only regular Blu-rays w/ sometimes DVDs included (no 3D discs and obviously no 4K UHD discs) . . .

It was only when Play.com started churning them out from May, 2012 that we had a decent selection of £9.99 and £10.99 steelbooks.

It should also be remembered that when Blu-rays first appeared in the UK in the last quarter of 2006, and for a while after that, you could pop into your local HMV and find most new Amaray releases priced at between £18 - £25 w/ some priced at a stratospheric £29.99.

Will this be really released on Sep. 3rd? I mean, sometimes Zavvi release new steelbooks a few days earlier than announced release date.

Zavvi will debit payment the week before release date likely to be on Wed or Thur but can be as early as Mon or Tue

Date of delivery will depend on if disney have release date restriction in place or not.

You can get a dispatch email on Wed or Thur but not be delivered until release date Monday or after depending on your location.

If no release date restriction is in place you might have delivery before release date if your based in the UK.

So you start off saying steels were not cheaper then give a bunch of examples of steels that clearly we’re cheaper :hilarious:

Anyways, as I already said “in some cases” steels were priced the same as the amaray; Star Trek (play.com exclusive) triple play steel was the same price as the amaray. That was my first steel purchase. Why pay the same for a plastic case I thought?... Then I got HMV’s Drive for the same reason, £12.99 on release day as I remember.

Saw this in person (or at least the Aussie version) yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see the debossing. It's sold out online and there was only one copy of the SB left so it looks like it's selling well here too (although it's only available with 4K here not 3D).

Personally I've cancelled my Zavvi order because I already have the standard 4K and Target versions on the way, plus there's no IMAX ratio for the 3D so no real point in getting it for me. So there's one more 3D for the restock. ;)
