I hope that is just the plastic. I had a steel come from Zavvi a few days ago that I thought had spine slashes but it was just the plastic with a wrinkle right at that area. Definitely gets your blood pressure up though!

I've already had 3 emails back from Zavvi basically saying they'll get back to me and i have sent them photographs so it's looking more and more to me like this spine splash is a serious problem that's affected a serious amount of copies......

I wonder how they are with US customers over returns. Seeing how many copies have the slashed spine. Now I'm thinking my copy may have this same issue.

Not sure why so many of you are blaming zavvi , it may or may not be them at all.

Remember there are 3 stages to steelbook production & delivery.

1) Steelbook made at scanavo then packed in cardboard boxes
2) Boxes opened at media distribution centre and discs and leaflets etc placed inside then sealed and placed back in boxes.
3) Box received & opened by end retailer.

It could either be at stage 2 or stage 3 that the dings and dents and spline slashes appear but considering the sheer volume of media (CDs DVDs steelbooks etc) that the media centres stock and fill cases with, I would be more likely to point the finger of blame at them rather than the end retailer.

Another fault with this release by the way is that the J-Card says the audio track is full lossless dts HD-MA 7.1 but it's not , it's a lossy track - dts HD-HR 7.1
Not a biggie but strange for Disney who are obsessed with giving all ancient catalogue titles a full 7.1 dts HD Master Audio track (even Snow White in 1937) to suddenly release Bambi with a lossy track and then get the tech specs wrong on the info card !!!

Still waiting for my Bambi , but my Cinderella arrived with a slash. I contact zavvi attaching a photo and within 24 hrs they had sent me collect plus returns label. Have opted for a replacement. as long as they still have them buy the time they receive the faultly one and they dont send me another slashed one. finger crossed.

Some how just had a 2nd post delivery of the day ( thought those days were long gone ) and Bambi has just arrived and thankfully it is mint. Very nice looking steel

Regardless of where the damage is caused ... Zavvi are sending out damaged steels.

Well got this one today and yet another spine slash, sending this back to zavvi along with Cinderella, zavvi are starting to get on my nerves

Yes they are but considering that a lot of spine slashes you can't actually see until the wrap is removed and those that you can see would need to be individually checked, you can't blame them for not checking all 4,000 or 8,000 or whatever personally, especially when it only affects those that were unluckily on the top of the box.

Also take into account that the chances of getting a reprint done are minimal and I can see why they still want to offload them - it's either that or cancelling the entire sale and saying to customers "sorry but a certain number are damaged so we are withdrawing it " - we'd all be bitching about that then as well.

I certainly wouldn't want the job either way :p

It really is about time that the people at both scanavo & the distribution centres either started putting thin cardboard on top of the steelbooks in the box to porotect them or made the boxes 1 inch bigger so the Stanley knife didn't cut into the tightly packed steelbooks - it isn't rocket science.
