I'm glad I said "probably" in my previous post. Sounds not very promising :bored:

Anyway, it's a freaking beautiful Steelbook I'll definitely get and display
Oh, it's a beautiful steelbook alright - definitely one of the best in my collection. The film itself is a bit "trippy" (i.e. it looks like the production team was high on something, and very much a product of it's time!), but worth it for the opening sequence alone (and you'll know what I mean if you have seen it)! :D:drool::thumbs:

Word to all of that :D

Thanks for the perfect pictures (as always) @moon

The Steelbook is freaking beautiful! Reminds me a little to my favorite Steel, Forbidden Planet  Not sought after but a stunner in Hand I deeply adore.

good taste sir  Forbidden Planet (originally Entertainment Store exclusive) is a gem. Shame it didnt do as well as it should, but the run was waaaaay too big for such a niche release imo.... shoulda been a 1k or 2k, like some of their other steels (Pain & Gain, Jack Reacher etc) :cigar:

does anybody know if Barbarella, Dracula, Mummy and Chinatwon still have the slipcases... they´re in the photos but unlike those others (Ferris etc..) listing doesn´t state slipcase
thanks for the help in advance

quoting myself here.. anyone able to help with the question now...?
THX

I think you can be certain that Forbidden Planet ended up at way less than the original run of 4,000 - it took me 4 copies to get one that wasn't dented or otherwise damaged. That can't be a one-off.

Forbidden Planet
It was a print run of 4,000
It's a beautiful steelbook but might have been better if it had of been limited to 2,000 as it would have sold out lot quicker

Lot of the stock ended up on Zavvi and Amazon after it was no longer a Entertainment Store exclusive

Yes Paul, nobody is disputing the original print run.
The point is you can guarantee from my personal experience alone (1 out of 4 undamaged) that there were a lot of damages; so there is no way 4,000 reached the public. Maybe 2,000 at most, the rest would end up in the scrap heap

Mine was in perfect condition no issues you must have just been unlucky
There was not 2,000 damaged lol

The slip on this imo is just a waste of cardboard. Why must they insist on making the slip shot the same as the steelbook shot. The whole purpose of having a slip is to present different artwork than the steelbook it holds.

Oh yeah? lol I know of at least a dozen other people who went though at least 2 copies each to get a good one. In a sample of 13 people that's around 18 - if memory serves - damaged copies. You do the maths. So don't be so sure.
This was also around the time that zavvi revised the final print run numbers of many of their Disney steels (the only company brave enough to do that) to allow for damages which cut some runs very nearly in half.

Or had you forgotten about that?

My copy was fine too. It could be the people going through copies to get a good one are really going through copies for a perfect one. And perfect steelbooks are a rarity. If you have a 30+% damage rate I would suggest there's something wrong with the supply chain.

I bought my Forbidden Planet from Entertainment Store back in 2014 it had a dinge on the top front I could see it through the seal, the replacement was ok and it's still one of my favourites to this day.

There are some great sci-fi movie posters from the 50's and 60's, including Barbaerlla and the steelbooks real nice too, glad they picked this movie poster too. I wish we would get a re-release for The Day The Earth Stood Still 1951, they did not go with the famous movie poster and it was just horrible what they went with on that.

Mmmm, possibly, but the three I sent back were bad - you could see the damage as soon as you opened the box/cardwrap.
But you hit on a valid point about the supply chain. I believe there IS something seriously amiss - you only have to look at how they are shipped to Film Arena for an example - loaded into a large double-wall cardboard box 25 or 30 high, about six abreast with no protection at all. That is, I believe par for the course; but clearly isn't good enough.
On the other hand, some like Zoom take very little care in sending them out, and even Amazon Uk have been known to cock up mightily with steelbooks and box sets - they totally trashed my first Limited edition (and there were only around 750 of them) copy of Abel Gance's Napoleon quite simply by sending it out in an A1 mailer! :(
