BEST BUY SHRINKING MEDIA SECTION!!!

My insider source told me this was coming. Be prepared to see less and less movies at BB.

The sections will only change from planogram 3 times a year, what this basically means, is the change in stock will dramatically decrease and rumor is that replenishment shipments are to decrease as well. Also lesser known new release titles if they have no place on the new release fixtures they will not be placed in the regular planogrammed movie area and instead instantly go back in the warehouse to wait to be sent back.

Example: Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life and The Meaning of Life (30th Anniversary) are set to come out on October 8th, If these two are not on a planogram then they are not to even be put out on the floor. So even new releases (Anime will be a big one as that genre always has something new not planogrammed) and new catalog titles will mostly never see the sales floor and most associates wont even think to check the backroom.

With all CD prices going up (effective Sunday Oct 6th) and then the movie area being planogrammed starting that same week, media in Best Buy looks to be going downhill fast. Best Buy & Anderson both claim this is to better help the Blue Shirts know where product is and that Wal-Mart already does this but if any of your Wal-Marts are like mine, you know that just because it has a designated spot doesnt mean the idiot working has a clue where that spot is.

As if this will help them know where product is!

I called the other day to ask about the new release steelbook wave (The Ring, Shutter Island, Zodiac, Se7en, etc.) and they had no idea what steelbooks were. They couldn't find them in the system searching by title. That was that apparently -- I had to ask if someone could physically check. 10 minutes later they came back and said they only had Friday the 13th (a tin). I told them that I'd just come in and check myself. Sure enough, they had all of them.

In my experience, asking an employee about a product's availability is a waste of time.

Yeah couple of discussions about this over last year in industry. Be interesting to see how it all unfolds-their margins have been suffering for a long time-seems like they have no choice but to dedicate floor space to higher margin items.

Why would CD prices go up.. I never buy any because they are already too expensive.. This is why most of the mall stores went out of business because 17-18 for a CD is just dumb.

Oh well.. I don't think Best Buy is long for this world anyhow. I probably won't even bother with them anyhow anymore. It's not worth it, they don't care about the consumer, and it's too disorganized.

I get my cd's from Amazon. Most of the time if you buy them within the first 2 weeks of release, they are about $10.

I think he meant disc prices from the manufacturer are going up. Not just "music" CD's. This would effect anything that uses a disc for storage.

But I could be wrong.

This sucks:angry: Selections During Upgrade and Save are going to be Scarce:( What the Heck am i going to do now? Every Saturday, me and my Daughter Go and walk around Best Buy, sometimes i buy stuff for me or her. I'll have to find another place for us to walk around:(

Not good news because we'll be left with Wal Mart and Target for brick and mortar stores. I prefer to buy my blu rays from Best Buy because they don't spider wrap their stock or put them in annoying plastic shells. At least we'll still have .com, but the packaging isn't always the best.

WOW! I completely agree, 100%! I couldn't of said it better myself! Best Buy is always my first stop! I have a .com account and even have the local store programmed on my phone :p I also love their Silver Premier Membership and the Rewardz Program

This and steelbooks are really the only time I buy from BB anymore along with tv shows on rare occasion.

They "revamped " my closest store a few weeks ago and def shrunk the BD/DVD section more.:(

It would help BB employees if BB actually hired employees to staff the media areas. You know, instead of having a 3rd party company come in a few times a week to "organize" & stock items.
