I have done a few upgrades to my PC and hardware I'm pretty good with. Power supplies,not so much. What's the best way to find out what I need? For example- wattage, cable type etc.

I've tried a lot of different brands of power supplies, Cooler Master, Antec, Enermax, OCZ... I've been using Corsair for a few years now, and they are very good.
Try Corsair AX series, they are expensive but the power supply in my opinion is the most important piece of a computer.
