I've cancelled every non Disney pre-order, like a lot of other ninjas. The matte finishes (which should be listed in the product details) and continued price drops have slowly pushed me away as a customer.

This EXACT reason Wreck stated for the matte finishes better get resolved soon. If we are still getting matte finishes for the forthcoming Disney's, then even those will be for the chop.

Looks nice, but will wait for a price-drop before I pick it up. I agree about the border... it really isn't needed with that sort of artwork.

I will say this though. Zavvi need to stop with the borders that do not contain the picture as it goes right through Eddie Murphy's head. If that means the title is not embossed, then fine. A plain front without embossing looks a lot better than that border going thorough the image.
Totally agree, embossed titles are not so impressive an effect that it warrants running borders through people's faces. I'd say the "emboss everything!" kick has gotten way out of hand, but Zavvi sped past that point a long time ago.

Otherwise, not a bad looking steel, save for the disproportional hedge graphic on the back.

Good thing Scanavo put them out of business. Get that competition outta here! Keep that stranglehold on ploppy tin, matte finish, single-disc catalog releases with crooked embossing that cost 3x their Amaray counterparts!

I still marvel at how much more beautiful that Viva is all the way around. It's not even close.

:yeahthat:

That's the first time I've seen the SB and Viva side by side. The Viva's colours are sooo vivid. I've always preferred the almost invisible borders on the viva's as well. That court case was a sad day indeed. :(

The Metal Pack people should really appeal that ruling. Their product was not even that similar to a Steelbook. It would be like Ford suing Chevy for also putting metal doors on their cars.

I agree completely. The combination of Disney and Viva was golden. I just wish I'd have got all of them at retail.

Clearly they do infringe patents that Scanavo hold which is why they lost the case. Metalpaks are still sold Worldwide and they have visible hinges on the spine whereas both Ironpacks and Vivas have similar hinges/spines to Steelbooks and were banned, so that must be where the problem lies.

I don't see the point of embossing "Beverly Hills" if you're not going to emboss "Cop" as well :(
