Yup, a welcome steelbook release/re-release and now that the artwork has been revealed it's a big

even though the front artwork is not *massively different to what's on the front of the previous steelbook and if the exact same disc is used (likely) at least it will match the colour of the new case better (LOL).
Main difference being the colouring . . . with the original giving off a night-vision vibe and the re-release a baking hot daytime vibe.

Personally speaking would have preferred different artwork to what's been revealed - maybe something like what's on the front of the DVD steelbook - but I accept that wouldn't have been a popular choice and with a title such as "Black Hawk Down" makes perfect sense to have a black hawk helicopter centre stage on the steelbook front.
Anyway, new steelbook shaping up to be a far better release than the Play.com steelbook which although v.nice was a bit "lacking" with no 'bossing of any kind and I'll need to check my copy to see if there's any spot gloss or other nice little touches . . . this new BHD being just the latest to add to the list of far better steelbook re-releases than the originals.

IMO the only thing holding the new release back from stellar status is the lack of an extended cut as in "One movie, two cuts" on Blu-ray (extended cut which as we all know has been long available on DVD).
Ideally this should have been a 2-disc set with 1xBD-50 disc containing the re-mastered Theatrical and Extended Cuts of the film and 1xBD-25 disc containing the 2 1/2 hour approx. documentary which is in SD anyway.
A 4K re-mastered Blu-ray would have been cool for the film's 15th Anniversary this year considering quite a number of Ridley Scott's other films released on Blu-ray have been given re-masters (ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, GLADIATOR . . . ).

For comparison between the Theatrical Cut and the Extended Cut there's this:-

. . . with the summary comment to the effect that nobody should feel short-changed with just the TC:-
"
So, how can the Extended version improve the film yet further? Well, it can't. Some scenes are well made and would have been nice to have in the Theatrical Version, but do not justify buying the movie a second time. Many of the extended scenes are on the other DVD releases as Deleted scenes anyway. The few additional shootouts may be interesting for the action fans, but are somewhat useless since the Theatrical Version packs quite a punch already."
