I personally don't mind re-releases ... Especially if they "touch up" the film and improve it as well. That's always a bonus.

But in terms of steelbook ... I always like having the best version possible so old one will be sold on for a new replacement.

love the film but hope they can come up with something new since i already have play.com version... that JP collector's box art is super sweet...

Afraid to say no hope in waiting for new art as this is what we are reportedly going to get. . . .

4K is pretty hard to fake, when people are comparing PQ on 4K projectors....
I think Jack is talking about films that don't even have a 4k master, but are simply upconverted from a 2k master to 4k UHD Blu-ray ;)

You mean fake 4k like the vast majority of releases?:naughty::whistle:
This was shot on 35mm, so it should make a suitable candidate for 4K with a new master, right?

I just hope when they do release the UHD version that they spring for an Atmos or DTS:X track. The 5.1 PCM mix is a classic, but I'd love to hear this with full blown immersive audio.

Lot of the 4K UHD releases are not better than standard Blu-ray some have worse picture quality
There is issues with some 4K HDR TV and 4K UHD Blu-ray players as to how they handle HDR (High Dynamic Range)

Also lot of the earlier 4K TV's don't have HDR (High Dynamic Range) it's only the New recently released 4K TV's that do

Standard Blu-ray 1080p 24p is good quality and if it looks good no need to be upscaled to 4K UHD
Upscaled don't mean better picture quality it can have opposite effect

The Blu-ray in the steelbook will be the same Blu-ray as with previous UK releases

Well said. OLED manufacturers are yet to implement HDR properly.

There are many tellies out there with accurate implementation of HDR but Studios are letting early adopters down big time by releasing upscaled transfers which are only a smidgen better than Blu-ray. Also the viewing distances for 4K is very less. For instance, normal people won't be able appreciate 4K from even from a 55 inch screen at a distance of 8 ft.

To me, 65 inch is a minimum to appreciate 4K from a distance of about 7-8 ft

Inside looks great :thumbs::-

New ................................................................................................................................................. vs. .............................................................................................. old

IMO shaping up to be a far superior release to the first steelbook.

Thanks to Zavvi for providing the prospective buyer with a clear description of the finish :)

Love this movie and won't mind adding this release to my collection especially on with the debossed title. Any idea when pre-order will happen?

I'd you're sticking with bluray then that would be 1k only. Even a 2k upscaled uhd is more than double the resolution. Also people believe older films must be poor quality when in fact the opposite caN be true, as some analogue filming can be used for more than 8k resolution.
I like my 3d films and with they were also 4k'd. Not yet though.
I personally don't think BHD would be a good candidate for 4k, as the shaky cam effect, it may as well be a dvd

Err no - I was talking about 2k blu-ray discs.

if you are actually referring to 1080p, then the format is actually 2k in vertical resolution, and at 1920 X 1080 overall it is technically 2k, not 1

Besides, as you must know, for normal viewing at normal distances on a screen below 60 inches, which covers more than 80% of the market - you can't see the difference in the higher resolutions. Though some people fool themselves into believing otherwise.

And you are definitely barkng up the wrong tree if you think I see old films as visually rubbish. I have seen more quality 35 and 70 (actually 65) mm films than many people have had hot dinners.

Well I've had a hot dinner for the majority of my life (estimated at 95% just to be safe), so 33 years * 365 days * 0.95 = 11,442.75. That's a lot of films that you've seen!

Hot TV dinners
A meal with every film you watch that can end up lot of films
I do it a lot watch a film when it's dinner time

Can you name a few? Every 4K I own is on another level, especially The Revenant (colours in that are 100x better).

Bourne Identity and Star Trek Beyond.

I am.sure even the upscaled ones look better in UHD due to.HDR but a bigger screen.and short viewing distance is needed to appreciate the difference.

I think this.will benefit from.a.4K scan taking an.already good picture to.the next level.
