Blu-ray imports recommendation thread

I've only imported Red Cliff from the UK. The international version included both part 1 and 2 unlike the US. Plus it was $13 dollars shipped :D.

I still need to watch Red Cliff. I only have the Steelbook so far, with no English language. The one you describe looks amazing, and totally up my alley (I love visually beautiful 'epic' films). Also on my "watch" list is Tora Tora Tora. Lets not discuss how long that movie has been in its wrapper, ha!

I've only seen part one so far, I haven't had time to watch part 2 yet. So far it looks great. Production wise it's excellent, very very detailed from the garment to the armor on the commander's chest and helmets. The battle scenes are cool too.

Buffalo-I heard the UK Twister is better than US Twister. Since you're in Mexico I am not sure if you've compared the two. I have not-but it's one of my favorite flicks, so if you have any info I'd appreciate it:)

I got the US version but since no subs on disc I returned to amazon sealed, UK version has very good PQ and sound, definetively go for the UK release

What are your favorite Blu-Ray imports?

I just ordered IP Man from Hong Kong. The PQ and AQ on that version is so much better than the american version.

The blue tint only appears or it becomes more noticeable during the second part of the film. The first part is a bit more warm and colorful over the US version.

Purchased a steelbook version of the Crow. The original owner replaced the EU copy with a Japanese copy BD. The transfer is amazing, just as the person claimed. He said that the EU transfer was like watching a DVD. So, glad he include the JP version. Highly recommended. Are other JP transfers just as good? Cheers.

I've imported a number of Blu-rays for reasons other than packaging ...

The Aviator (Germany) - DTS-HD Master Audio where US release is only Dolby Digital

Cronos (UK) - DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 where US Critereon only has DTS-HA MA 2.0 audio

Total Recall (Holland) - PQ is superior to US version

The Pacific/ Band of Brothers Set (UK) - UK version is roughly $56 where the US version is $135

Kick-Ass (Germany) Arguably better PQ than US version and doesn't have the purple line anomaly

Grindhouse (Germany) - Double feature complete with all trailers and extras, plus losless audio where US version is only Dolby Digital

Reservoir Dogs (Germany) Better PQ than US version

House Of Flying Daggers (Hong Kong) Better PQ than US version

No prob, glad to help. Forgot to add ...

The Killer (Hong Kong) - Cantonese Dolby TrueHD 7.1 where US release only has Cantonese Dolby Digital 2.0

I got to go with my 2 latest import acquisitions, both of which are John Carpenter films:
They Live (It) & Vampires (Fr). Both look pretty impressive on Blu-ray and are sure to please fans of those films. The only issue is that they are both Region B locked titles.
