We all know the Call of Duty franchise isn't going anywhere and at this point, we can expect a new entry every year, what with Infinity Ward and Treyarch trading off.

So it's no surprise to learn that Activision has confirmed another CoD title for 2010; the announcement came during a conference call with analysts, and of course, other major franchises will return as well. Said Activision president Mike Griffith:

"In [calendar year] 2010, Activision Publishing is expected to release strong, innovative new titles. The diversified lineup will include titles based on the best selling franchises including Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Shrek, [and] Spider-Man."

Details are few and far between concerning the Guitar Hero and Spider-Man titles but we've heard pieces of information concerning the next Call of Duty. Earlier this year, Treyarch was reportedly seeking new music for the game, and such tracks included "Vietnam War-era tunes, as well as Cuban, African, and Soviet Union music," which got people thinking. Could it be based around Vietnam or the Cold War? We also heard from Treyarch's senior producer that World at War would be the last CoD title to be set in World War II, which will undoubtedly be a major topic of debate amongst loyal followers. Lastly, we do know that wherever the setting, the new Call of Duty has already been in development for quite some time so perhaps we'll start seeing some info and media before the year is out.

At this time, Activision is clearly focusing on the gigantic launch of Modern Warfare 2, which launches next week and is predicted to be one of the single biggest entertainment-related launches in history. Could it sell 14 million copies before the year is out...? We'll stay on the lookout for any details concerning the next Call of Duty but in the meantime, let's hear from you: what setting would you prefer?

As long as they only let Infinity Ward do the modern wars its all good. The Cold War seems like it could be nice, since there was no actual war they could pretty much do anything, I see a couple of stealth missions in Russia in the snow.
