Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a collaboration between Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software.

Every aspect of the game has been expanded. The story begins with a surprise attack on the US by Russia and then jets off around the globe, delivering short, punchy sequences from multiple views - a performance Modern Warfare as a series is famed for.

You'll take on roles within some of the world's most elite fighting forces across 15 missions. Modern Warfare 3 will answer most of the questions that arose from MW1 and MW2. There will be familiar faces, but also new characters to take the series forward from here.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is scheduled to release November 8, 2011.

Be warned though, the site has blown the game's story wide open, so expect major spoilers ahead.

Story:

Modern Warfare 3 story's ties up nearly all loose ends from previous titles, including the final moments of key figures in the series' history. The game will signal the return of popular characters Captain John “Soap” MacTavish and Captain John Price, as well as Vladimir Makarov and Russian informant Nikolai. The story also introduces new characters who appear to be destined for future Modern Warfare games, especially two Delta Force operatives codenamed "Frost" and "Sandman".

The game opens moments after the cliffhanger ending of Modern Warfare 2 with the U.S. struggling to stave off a surprise Russian attack. The single-player campaign will ping-pong players around the world as they take on the multiple throwaway roles as a Russian Federal Protective Services agent, SAS Operative, tank gunner, and AC-130 gunner as well as key characters from previous installments and new recurring characters. The game will feature about 15 missions, kicking off with the invasion of Manhattan by a Russian force and wrapping up with a final encounter in Dubai.

Soap, Price and Nikolai are laying low in a safehouse in Dharmasala, India, where they are set upon by Makarov’s men. Here, players hop into the boots of Yuri, a loyalist working for Nikolai. The safehouse is compromised, however, and the men are extracted via chopper.

The action then transitions to Manhattan as the Russians are busy pushing the attack with ships in the Hudson River. In retaliation, the U.S. calls in Delta Force and the player assumes the role of the aforementioned Frost.

Following this, you’ll board a Blackhawk and fly over the skyline blasting enemy choppers before approaching the Hudson River, where you must sink the Russian submarine “coordinating the attacks.”

After this, you’ll fly over the city in a Blackhawk, gun down enemy choppers, and fly out to the Hudson where you must sinka Russian sub that is “cooredinating the attacks.”

Additionally, gamers will also control a Russian agent tasked with protecting the Russian president on his journey to sign a peace treaty with the U.S. However, the plane is attacked resulting in the kidnapping of the president, though his daughter ultimately escapes. Unsurprisingly, Makarov isn’t keen on establishing peace between the two countries, and so grabs the launch codes from the President and attacks the U.S.

The action then shifts to Price and co in Africa, where the trio deal with a South African arms dealer before heading to Sierra Leone. We’re then put in control of an SAS chap tasked with stopping the delivery of weapons of “mass destruction” over the London docks.

MW3 depicts several European cities coming under attack, including Hamburg, Germany, where gamers control a tank gunner in an attempt to drive back the Russian forces.

Things come to a close in Dubai, where Yuri, Price and Sandman corner Makarov in his hotel hideaway where the unscrupulous fellow finally meets his maker. A “post-credits level” is apparently also featured, depicting the burning of Washington, D.C.

 1. Dharmasala, India
 2. New York, New York

Multiplayer in the game returns with a chunky list of playable maps as well as two types of Spec Ops modes: "Survival" and "Mission".

Activision, the series' publisher, still hasn't officially unveiled any details about the game, though executives have said that a new Call of Duty game was coming this year. Last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops, developed by Treyarch, sold more than 7 million copies in the first 24 hours and within six weeks reached $1 billion in sales.

Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Features Battles in Brooklyn, Clash in Mogadishu

Packed with 15 levels set in locations around the world, from Manhattan to the catacombs of Paris, Modern Warfare 3's near-future campaign looks to be an experience that will top anything seen before in a Call of Duty game.

Multiplayer, too, seems to be shaping up to be an experience packed with new maps, experiences and ways to game.

Sources tell Kotaku that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have as many as 20 multiplayer maps, though it's unclear if some will be cut before release or perhaps sold later as expansion packs. The game will also include a powerful mix of mission-based and survival Special Ops modes. While the mission-based levels will be designed like the ones made popular in Modern Warfare 2, we're told, the survival maps will have players fighting until they're overcome by increasingly difficult waves of enemies.

While we haven't seen the game in action ourselves, we believe that the imagery is accurate. That doesn't mean things can't change before release.

We've contacted Activision for comment and will update the story when and if they provide reaction.

Kotich or however you spell the CEO name, the guy is pure greed. Year after year he just continues to scheme up new way to charge more and more. If this comes true well I'm sure they'll lose lots of buyers.

Activision unveils Call of Duty Elite subscription service

Activision has officially pulled the curtain back on its long-rumored Call of Duty subscription service.

Titled Call of Duty Elite, the service will launch alongside the hotly-anticipated Modern Warfare 3 this November, and is said to be free to all players minus “some paid aspects TBD.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, the publisher plans to issue a monthly subscription fee for Elite, which provides users with extra content such as downloadable map packs.

The free portion of Elite includes Facebook-inspired features allowing gamers to meet up and trade insults, as well as a Halo-style Waypoint performance tracker which lists all your statistics for every firearm in the game.

Elsewhere, Elite will provide “Call of Duty” players with tools to analyse their performance within the game, taking into account factors such as which weapons have proved most successful for them in regards to dispatching foes.

Apparently, while Activision bigwigs have yet to decide on a price for Elite, they expect the service to cost less than similar online entertainment services such as Netflix’s monthly $7.99 USD subscription fee.

Those who subscribe to multiplayer service Call of Duty: Elite will battle on a level playing field against those who don't, developer Beachhead has insisted.

"If you are worried about someone buying their way into Prestige or Activision selling people special weapons that they wouldn't normally be able to earn through gameplay, don't be - that's not what Elite is about," Activision's Dan Amrich said.

"We're not doing anything like that," Beachhead boss Chacko Sonny added.

"It's not part of the plan."

Elite expands the multiplayer Call of Duty experience with free and premium features – although Activision is yet to reveal exactly what the premium subscription will provide.

"Additional offerings above and beyond the core stuff will come with a fee," Amrich explained. "The simplest and best analogy I can think of is television. You can watch NBC, CBS, and ABC all you want, just for the price of buying a TV. However, if you want more - Comedy Central or HBO or NBA League Pass - then you subscribe to a cable or satellite service to get those extra programs.

"You don't have to; it's a question of whether or not you want to see those other shows. If you're happy with your usual high-quality network television, keep on enjoying it. If you want more content from your TV, you can choose to subscribe to more. Does that make it seem less terrifying?"

While we don't know the total number of team perks coming to Modern Warfare 3, we have been told four of them:

Stopping Power: Increased bullet damage.
Blast Shield: Unclear
Health Regen: Regenerate health over time.
Stun Protection: Prevent stunning from flash grenades.

New perks coming to Modern Warfare 3 include:

Blind Eye: This makes you immune to computer-controlled and player-controlled killstreaks. The pro version makes your launchers lock on faster and gives you extra bullet damage to vehicles.
Assassin: This makes you immune to UAV, thermal, and heartbeat sensors. The pro version also makes you immune to CUAV, EMP and no longer shows your name in red or the crosshair in red when you're targeted.
Point Guard: Every two assists count as a kill towards your killstreak.
Dead Silence: You make no noise.
Recon: Gives you a special kind of radar to spot enemies, most likely. We're not sure on this one.

We're not clear on how many or which previous perks will be coming to the game, but it sounds like the ones that do return will do some from Modern Warfare 2, not Black Ops.

There will also be a bevy of new killstreaks to play with in multiplayer. Here's the rundown on the latest thinking:

EMP Grenade: Temporarily takes out all area electronics.
Littlebird: A tiny remote-controlled helicopter.
Precision Airstrike: Calls in an airstrike on a targeted area.
Stealth bomber: Calls in a B2 Spirit to carpet bomb along a line designated by the player.
Remote Turret: A remote controlled turret.
Directional UAV: A UAV that can be directed into areas to scan for enemies.
Remote Mortar: Direct a mortar team using a zoomable camera view of the map to call in strikes.
Airdrop Trap: A booby-trapped airdrop.
Ammo Resupply: An ammo reloading airdrop.
Escort Airdrop: A protected airdrop.
Specialist Strike Package: This one remains a mystery to us.

Just posted from FourZeroTwo:

Lots of false #MW3 info being reported as fact. There is no Stopping Power, OMA, Commando, or Nukes. Beyond that, you’ll have to wait & see.

i hope you're being funny. if not, i think they are refering to the commando perk which allowed you to strike someone with your knife from halfway across the map.

Thats from mw2! I cant possibly be expected to remember! LOL it did come back to me though. I was thinking black ops ok lol

E3 2011: Infinity Ward Not Interested in Campaign Length

Infinity Ward isn't bothered about the length of their single-player campaigns, according to the studio's creative strategist Robert Bowling. Instead they just want to tell a good story.

"MW3 is big," Bowling told Gamefront (via VG247). “It has that epic single player campaign and it’s all about taking players places they’ve never been before.

"Our philosophy on the campaign has always [been] the same. We never set out to make X hours of game time. We write a story and the story dictates the length."

When asked about how long Modern Warfare 3 actually is, Bowling replied, “The game’s not finished yet. I can’t say it’s X amount of hours cause we don’t know.”
