yes but this will be truly limited not mass produced like the first Thor & CA steelbooks!

and zavvi always reduce steels by £5 so £14.99 Hell yeah

How do you know it won't be mass produced? I don't see anything mentioned about print run. I also don't see anything mentioned about a 5 gbp reduction. So... how do you know all of this if I may ask?

Hey Chip, people buy for different reasons. Some just want an upgraded case. And, other retailers have also had print runs that were larger than the 'typical' MOQ, as has been mentioned on this forum.

Hey Babe, I understand that, but its no longer a collectors market for steelbooks. That has come and gone. I am afraid I am going to just look for something else.

any different from the last ones? they are closer to 100,000 then 10,000

Exactly. CLoser to 100,000 and it became rare. And Zavvi decides to make an end to it just right after the steelbook became sought after.

So this is how steelbook collecting is going to be from now on? If a steelbook becomes rare, release a new one and destroy the value of the original one - just because some people have to cry ''because they missed out''.

If the original steelbook really got a 100K print run, people who ''missed out'' don't have any valid reason to complain. There were plenty of opportunities to get one.

So it's all up to you. If you really want it, you can get it for cheap from one of the original retailers.
I didn't purchase it from a wholesaler or anything, just from a UK webshop anyone has access to.

Chip, I think Steelbooks have become more popular, due in part to their success and the growth of people who know about them and like the cases. 'Collectibility' varies depends on how you look at the whole hobby. There are still Steels that have smaller runs, exclusive covers, or included items, which remain sought after. As usual, whether one buys an item or not, and why they buy it, is completely up to them:)

Yes, but Zavvi aren't producing steelbooks for Captain America and Thor just because people missed out, but because people who missed out, people who collect steelbooks, people who collect variants and people who collect Marvel titles will buy it.

They're a business. They don't care if it upsets those who bought the original and why should they? I bought the originals, I opened them and watch them. I don't care if these new ones are identical or not, it makes no difference to me. I have what I have. It's not for resale, I don't even display them. They're just for my own enjoyment.

It's like cars. BMW makes a 3 series and it sells. They do them in different colours and they sell. A couple of years later, they release a new style 3 series. It's essentially the same as the last one, styled a bit different, and they sell too. BMW doesn't owe me anything. I paid my money and I took my chance. Yes, the new one looks a bit nicer but I'm not going to rush out and get it (not that I could afford to anyway).

Didn't the Future Shop Iron Man steelbook keep going up in value despite the Play.com release?

I would have thought that the value due to rarity would remain, with the market viewing the re-releases as copies or inferior?

I totally agree.

I don't see how any of this Zavvi talk is relevant to chip's post. He said that it's no longer a collectors' market and that is true. It's getting to the point where you needn't bother paying anything higher than retail because eventually it will get an affordable re-release. No need to trade with collectors from around the World because it will probably be available from a retailer in your own country soon enough. Re-releases are taking the fun out of collecting for a lot of people. It's not about owning a movie in a nice case, there is much more than that at stake here.

Very true, Snoo!

Just remember everyone...people buy Steelbooks for completely different reasons. Not everyone cares about reprints, or print runs, or differences in art. There are new people joining this hobby every day, and for many, they are not interested in buying 1 movie for hundreds of dollars or what was the original-they're actually choosing based on art, the movie itself, etc etc. I've skipped many a reprint because I own the original, just because I was around years ago when Steelbooks even had any releases at all. But people that learn about Steelbooks today, are not necessarily hunting Ebay day and night or putting certain titles in a shrine, etc. Some people collect stamps, some islands, and then there's everything in between. Consumers should be vocal...don't want it, don't buy it:)

The top quote was the one I was replying to regarding people missing out.

A collector's market is such a wide spectrum. People collect all sorts of things, some rare, some not. The question we need to ask ourselves is why we collect them in the first place.

Is it because we love the items, because they're rare, because they fit into one of our interests or a combination of the above? If someone collects something only because it's rare, they're collecting for the wrong reason IMO. If they're collecting only because it'll be more valuable in 10 years time then they're not a collector, they're a businessman.

I collect steelbooks in the sense that I have a collection of them. But only ones I want, that I'll watch and enjoy. I'm the only person I know personally that has any Blu-ray steelbooks as none of my friends are interested. I wouldn't care though if they all had Captain America in a steelbook. Good for them.

IMO I disagree that because we collect something 'rare' we are in this for the wrong reason? Everyone collects for their own reasons.

There is no right or wrong in collecting. Everyone is different.
