It's far from irrelevant, a lot of people missed out on that release and GB's for whichever the retailer helps limit that happening to true collectors again.

Really? Something that happened two years ago and was the one and only instance where something sold out fast at Kimchi means there should forever be GBs for every Kimchi release? Nice logic.

You wouldn't be taking a risk later if there were no pointless GBs. Before GBs started popping up for Kimchi, I never once came anywhere near failing to obtain even the most popular releases as long as I was on the site within a few hours of go-live time. But since these Kimchi GBs started appearing (on this forum and others), I've had two different items go out of stock on me in less than two minutes after go-live time.

In Kimchi's case, it's the GBs that create the risk. All you're doing by joining GB's for a store like Kimchi is paying more and pushing others who would otherwise never join such an unnecessary GB to also join because they're afraid, justifiably so, that all of the pointless GBs popping up everywhere will make it difficult to obtain a copy straight from the store.

There should be FA GBs because their store charges outrageous shipping prices.
There should be Nova GBs because their servers suck and ordering directly from them is a nightmare.
There should be GBs for a lot of other companies because they don't sell direct, or they don't accept some payment methods, etc.
But there is no good reason for there to be Kimchi GBs.

You have a valid point specially about FA and Nova GBs but I am sure most people won't like it. There is absolutely no reason for Kimchi GB but nothing is gonna change, not today and not tomorrow. Its just gonna fall on deaf ears.

I'm sure you're right, but sometimes I can't help putting up a pointless fight .

I'm sure it wasn't the only instance at all, it's the one I've highlighted as that was a steel I went for

Is this the first time there has been two group buys for the same release on the same forum?
Not sure I see the point in having two group buys to be honest.
I know it's nice to have a choice wether to join a group buy but a choice of joining two group buys for the same thing seems daft.

i may be wrong but if you are in the uk and join the hdn group buy it doesn't work out much dearer than ordering direct

It does work out more dearer
You have extra shipping costs

IMO there is no need for any GB for Kimchidvd releases they ship worldwide and no longer have server issues like they did a few years ago

The more copies tied up in a GB means customers wanting to order direct is more likely to have problems using the kimchidvd website than when there is no GB

Why pay extra £20 or more when it's cheaper ordering direct

The Print run is also split 50/50 Korea/Overseas

International customers print run
Full Slip is 625 copies
Lenti Slip is 550 copies

too much gbs ..a bad joke
why should is pay several fees and extra shipping costs for something i can order by myself.

i see it coming...people without gb will have bad luck! because all copies are gone! :(

This will still sell out fast simply because the demand is there with most other retailers same steelbook been sold out

Film Arena when approved will also sell out as will the Manta release sell out

I might get the Manta version if I like what I see and will 100% get FA release if approved

HUH?

Might be just me, but I thought this was one of the better steels this year?

Well they tried to make it look like his wall logo when steel is spread open (then the rest of it should have been red), guess that's good, but just never like minimalist designs, plus you normally look at your steelbook from one side or the other, so it looks empty and repetitive.

Unless kimchi suck and block you for complaining about receiving the incorrect item :(
Its a case of ebaying it GB'ing now

Wow, I didn't know they did that. And just for complaining once?

What about Nova GBs? ;)

With how bad their servers work (last time I couldn't get a fullslip T2) that might be useful, even though their shipping is also relatively cheap and they mail worldwide. :)

The package seems a bit bare bones.

Yes, lately KimChi skim on their releases by using WWA steels and just printing out 5 postcards and a slip. After everyone got used to two sets of cards and a booklet, does seem like a cheap way to knock off gullible collectors.

£36 including postage to the UK. Thanks to the weak £. :(

It's about time your snobby currency got down to at least the level of Euro. It devalued only about 15% to the dollar right now, try 100% with the Rub (I've kept money in US$ :greedy:, but for many everything imported became not 15%, but twice as expensive :cigar:)

You're 5 hours behind the UK, you can work it out ;)

Actually it can be very hard for an average american to figure something like this out. Very. :D

I'm passing on this has nothing extra to make me interested in getting
I'm waiting on Film Arena version as that will have lot better extra goodies than this

If more people held out on such money grabbing releases maybe they understood quicker that we the collectors don't just buy everything with a "limited" tag. Oh well...

Sorry for quoting the whole thing (not that noticeable in this long post anyway), but I just had to take my hat off to adarkcorner, seemingly the most reasonable, thinking person I've seen here.
Although others spoke up afterwards, good. I thought I was in zombie land.

Even though I'm an American?

But seriously, thanks very much for the compliment!

Another 1am pre order from Kimchi for US EST (n)

And here lies one of the best reasons to join a group buy (even though in everyone's infinite wisdom who posted above about why they even exist they couldn't even find ONE reason). Pay a bit extra and don't worry about being around for it going live. Simple.

Also don't forget that the group buy host generally quality checks your copy before it comes to you ensuring you get a mint copy and don't have to worry about a back and forth with somebody who doesn't speak English as a first language.

For me, that would be the only benefit of joining the group buy, getting extra sleep. But, with all the releases out there, I try and save where I can and order direct. Nova is another story.
I'm going direct for this, I just wish they could do the pre-order a little earlier. Can't have it all as they say!
