You are in France so I'm guessing you speak and read French like a native so therefore not a problem for you to read the data card with the consequence that it would be strange if you bought the U.K. edition which has 'foreign' print on it.
Furthermore it is completely understandable and commendable that you support the economy of your own country

I am British and live in the U.K. so it would be strange if I bought this from Amazon.fr. Amazon.it or indeed from any other Amazon . . .
I would rather support the economy of my own country than support the economy of another country

I was scraching my head to find an instance where I bought a steelbook on a British website in lieu of a French website/store, when the steelbook & disc are identical.

I did, yes, but there were good reasons:

1 - I bought the UK version of Gravity (€28 on amazon.co.uk), but for some reason the French steelbook didn't come until a year later (and this one was glossy, and cheaper, but I didn't get it). Same thing for Pacific Rim.

2 - I bought Ex_Machina on Zavvi (€27.53 with discounts), but that was before the French edition was announced (and priced at €22.99), otherwise I would have bought the French one, yes, because it's cheaper (though to be fair I wouldn't have bought it either because the FilmArena edition announced a few weeks after the release of the Zavvi edition was shaping up to be the one to get).

So it does look like I'm supporting your point, but I'm not, because it's not about supporting my own country, it's about which one's cheaper. With this hobby, it tends to get expensive pretty fast, so if you can save a few bucks and not lose out in any category that matters (and a J-card isn't one of them to me), you go for it ;).

I've bought 17 German steelbooks this year, and some of them had a shared print run with Zavvi in the UK, such as King Kong, Jurassic Park I, II & III, AI: Artifical Intelligence, Poltergeist and Boogie Nights.

Now, I understand English a lot better than German, and yet I bought the ones with the German J-cards which, if I take my time, I can pretty much understand but I'm sadly nowhere near fluent yet :(. So why did I buy those? Price, that's all. All of the steelbooks mentioned above were €15 on release date including shipping from Germany to France. At Zavvi's, these steelbooks were around €20.

And it's not just Zavvi, for an identical product amazon.co.uk is often more expensive than amazon.de (like the great Once Upon a Time in America steelbook released last October in both the UK and Germany, it was much cheaper on amazon.de). And I haven't seen amazon.co.uk doing flash sales with discounted steelbooks in the way they happen on amazon.fr, amazon.de and zavvi. Some steelbooks lower in price, but not as often as you can see on amazon.fr/de.

Thank you for your considered views of your steelbook buying habits - it is appreciated :)
My habits are more straightforward in that I only buy steelbooks from a U.K. retailer and now nearly all from Zavvi.
I hardly ever buy steelbooks from Amazon because their prices suck - nearly always starts high and it takes a year or more sometimes to approach anywhere near a 'Flash sale' price.
I also dislike their steelbook packaging.
I'm perfectly happy with Zavvi despite their sometimes iffy customer service and I've never had a major issue with them worth repeating.
I'm happy with their excellent packaging and their steelbook prices are fine when compared to other U.K. retailers and their delivery times have improved a thousand fold in recent times.
What is more, if I'm not completely happy with any of their steelbook pre-order prices I just wait a month or few for a price drop. I find that by being patient I've been able to pick up many of my steelbooks for about 30% off the original pre-order prices and the fact that such-and-such a steelbook is available for 8 quid in Italy or Germany instead of 13 quid in the U.K. means absolutely nothing to me because I am patient and happy to wait for the steelbook from my country to match the price of the cheaper import.
Conversely,I hardly ever buy regular Blu-rays from Zavvi as their prices pre-order Blu-ray suck in the main and I buy those from HMV or Amazon and on occasion from Base.com.
I am quite happy to admit that I'd rather give my money to a U.K. company and that the only Blu-ray purchases made from outside the U.K. are U.S. imports courtesy of the Amazon Market Place.

In conclusion, I can't imagine spending my money on a steelbook with a non-English j-card missing the important, for me, BBFC stamps . . . and with that I'll leave it and wish you a very pleasant evening :)

I totally agree with you and you are more than entitled it's your money. I only want UK steels with J cards in English and whether it's cheaper elsewhere is irrelevant it may be similar but it is not the same

I buy from whomever gives me the best deal and right now especially with the Euro/Pound exchange, I've had some great deals from European Amazon sites. Zavvi I have to buy from because they do get exclusives in every sense of the word and obviously certain titles are going to be UK only l. It pays to shop around if you can.....
I think I got about 12 steelbooks from Europe in the past month all way way cheaper than the UK.

You're saying steelbooks in other countries are similar but not the same? How did you get to that conclusion? This STEELBOOK is EXACTLY the same as the one sold on amazon.fr. The only difference is the paper on the back which goes for almost €10 more on zavvi.com - which is obviously the biggest scam in history of printing useless paper.

I'm so glad I'm collecting STEELBOOKS not some back paper with info. Why aren't some people collecting steelbooks anymore? Are you watching that paper for 2 hours while the disc itself is in the case at all times??

Once you realize that the steelbook itself costs around €2-3 to make and to print a J-card (in whatever language) costs around €0.10 per steelbook, you'll feel just as stupid as I do. I'm slightly overpaying them on amazon.fr or amazon.it or wherever, but you're getting ripped off in brought daylight by buying "UK steelbooks".

Sorry for ranting but this discusion must end eventually. We all know what's what, right?

Peace! :)

Remember personal insults are not allowed towards any member in any of the HDN web forums
Everyone is entitled to an opinion and that is their choice even if it is opinion you don't agree with but keep it friendly your opinion towards a post
Lot of members purchase steelbooks from all over the world and members like to be told if a same steelbook is available from another retailer and if cheaper it is helping out fellows members have a choice and this has helped members often who miss out on release to see it can be purchased elsewhere

If someone wants to only purchase a steelbook from a UK retailer only it is their right if they want to do this and nothing wrong with that but it is also ok to let members know if a same steelbook is available from another country it is helping out fellow members

Keep it friendly and about the steelbook and retailer it is not good or acceptable to attack a member personally

Well said, :)

It is getting ridiculous when people can't say what they personally want to buy. Some people like myself do not want a foreign j card, that is our prerogative, whether it's more expensive or not. That people seem offended is preposterous, if people do not mind the j card then that is totally up to them and doesn't bother me what they also want to do with their money but resorting to petty name calling is quite sad frankly everyone is entitled to their own opinion/feelings and to buy what they want to buy. If there is no UK steelbook of one I want I just buy the amaray which is often pretty cheap.

For those members with literacy issues and who may not be aware that this thread - as CAN CLEARLY BE SEEN AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE - is for the ZAVVI EXCLUSIVE RELEASE IN THE U.K. of the cracking film "Deliverance" due to go 'live' this late afternoon at 6PM.
For those members wishing to save a few Euros and/or who don't mind the data card in a language other than English it is also available from:-
(1) Germany @EURO 14.99 + P&P
(2) France @EURO 12.99 + P&P
As can be seen in this example a MASSIVE saving over the U.K. release . . . LOL !!!

The other matter that will mean very little to the average collector/film buyer or indeed to the non-specialist collector is that the U.K. edition is limited to 1,000 while all of the others are most probably 'limited' to 3,000 or more per country.

Yes can we please stick to thread which is Zavvi Exclusive, so tedious constantly others being discussed if people want to buy them that's fine but discuss them in their own thread, the Zavvi exclusive threads are for just that Zavvi Exclusives and please don't be so childish as to say well they aren't Zavvi exclusives as you can buy them here, here etc.
This version comes with English J card.

. . . and ordered with ZVC5 (GBP 14.24).
Looking forward to this !

J-cards without the steelbook attached are pointless with neither value nor interest.
