I'm going to wait it out on this one. This was a definite pre-order for me but their pricing is getting way out of hand.Having thought about it, i don't have the first in steel so amaray will do for this too. With the amount of releases there churning out,you can't buy everything. It's not easy not jumping in on some of these pre-orders as they go live, but if enough of us don't maybe they will re-think it.

After thinking about it, I totally I agree. I only have the amaray with slipcase for the first aswell, and there are already so many others to choose from, that price is just not reasonable :/

Zavvi's decision to release steelbooks of 3D movies without the 3D disc makes it look like the UK is a technology backwater. Do they think they won't be able to sell 4000 units of a 3D title?

Perhaps the price will drop if the preorders are slow.

I knew it would be the same price as the placeholder. No way am i paying £23 for that. It wont drop at all same with all of their steels....will sit at the same price until they sell out.

i would guess that same as iron man 3 ben, people panic and buy it. quite a lot on here saying it's too high and are ordering anyway.

iron man 3 has a high limit i believe

I thought that a lot of members on here cancelled due to the high price and lack of 3D? There was certainly a lot of talk about it, or was that all it was, talk?

I cancelled mine for one of the Asian releases ;)

Anyway, back on topic. Zavvi are bad and over price their steels, boycott them :movie:

zavvi really need to get a grip, at that price it should include 3D, if people don't stop buying and supporting these prices they will never get any better, it should be £18 at the most

animated movies aren't what they used to be, that's for sure. Nobody's taking any risks these days. This is a definite pass for me.

You are kidding aren't you?

Steve Burke said in a conference call, it will become “the single most profitable film in the 100 year history of Universal Studios”. Despicable Me 2 has been so lucrative and successful that it has made an incredible £437 million so far with a production budget of just £50 million.

To put this into perspective, if you don't adjust for inflation that is more than Jaws, ET and more than Jurassic Park.

That is hardly something to be sniffed at

I wasn't talking about money, I'm talking about taking risks with content and using the medium for something other than pure entertainment and pop (up) culture jokes. When Michael Eisner decided to shut down the animation department at Disney, he said it was because nobody were interested in animated movies before. In reality, it was the same recycled formula people that made people avoid animated movies. I guess part of the reason Despicable Me 2 is so successful, is that people have stopped waiting for something new and meaningful and just chosen to run along with it.

That said, I'm not really blaming Despicable Me. Go ahead and buy the steelbook. The problem is really that animation has been reduced to one single genre, there's just no alternatives. In reality animation is a medium, not a genre, just like live action.

That's an interesting comment. Never really thought about that. But now that I am thinking about it, I'm not sure there's much room for too many genres in animated movies. Usually the target audience is looking for big adventure, fast paced comedy, or video game style graphics and/or anime type stuff.

Not too sure about a period piece drama or political thriller or murder mystery or those types of films as animation. Too big of a risk. Maybe that's what you mean by nobody is taking risks. Yep. I think I just got it as I was typing. Sorry don't mind me. Sometimes I'm a little slow :p

You're probably right, there might not be a big market. But have you seen Grave of the Fireflies by Studio Ghibli? At least it proves that it is possible to do a totally different genre in animation. My point was really that there wasn't really a market for Snow White in 1937... or so most people thought.

Anyway, I guess I'm getting off topic here.
