In regards to the bullet discussion... I've noticed it used in a very similar fashion more than a few times for various things (movie/game posters etc). I guess the designers probably just think it looks "cooler" that way or something.

One design that sprung to mind as soon as I saw the back art was the Wanted CE...

Interesting thought. Something to note is that while the "bullet" is blank on the steelbook image, it clearly has writing on it in the boxset image. Also, if you look at "Decoding Die Hard" page in the back of the book, it shows a bullet flying across the page. So I think this is bullet themed, and that the artist who created the image just didn't know what they were doing. Surprised it passed through everyone and got approved for such a large print item. (twice)

Actually, thinking about it, it would still be the back end even if it was a cartridge, so it probably is a bullet impact drawn badly!

Wow. A 25 year-old action classic deserves a lot more effort than this. This couldn't be more generic, or less inspired. So very disappointing. Leave the hopeless attempt at modernization to the instantly incomplete box set of inferior sequels. A steelbook should be more than that.

And for those that don't recognize that photo, it's from the original teaser poster.

Desaturate it, tilt it a little bit, smudge the edges of his hair around so it looks like its moving, lay a bunch of glass on top, and voila. So hip and modern I can hardly stand it.

I'd be happier with something like this for the front cover!

Why is he putting his left arm all the way down the sleeve of his right arm? And what's up with the huge right hand holding the invisible gun? It also has random bullet holes and he seems to be standing a lava pit? Sorry but I am not really a fan of this poster.

^^Pretty much sums up how I feel. A definite pass for me. I don't feel like the exterior art captures the nature of the film. It's almost as Zavvi is trying to pass it off as new film, possibly Die Hard 5? This steelbook lacks 90's nostalgia.

its die hard im getting it day 1

If you think the poster's bad, you should watch the movie.

I like the artwork. The glass shattering and Bruce limping around with cut barefeet was a huge part of the movie imo so I think it gives it a nice touch. But the dvd cover would have been nice as a blu steel

He looks like a model being all sexy as he fights crime (Too sexy to care about flying glass) on the steel though, not the day hating tired cop he is in the film.

Crazy. It's actually the same picture, just reworked. Look at the sweat on his forehead. In the new steelbook cover, the angle is tilted to make it look like he's leaning forward more, and the right side of his face is included. It's brighter and more "fresh and clean" looking. The DVD cover art looks waaaaay better and more intense like the movie, even thought it's the same pic. Steelbook cover looks like he's posing for a commercial. Way too bright and cheery. Weird how that can be true.

Ah well... Life goes on. I wouldn't say it's super awful, but a gritty, Die Hard, true to the movie steelbook would have been sweet.

LMAO. It does look like hes looking in the vanity mirror saying "Aw yeah. Thats the pose I want." And it breaks, but he doesn't care because his pose is too good right now.:hilarious:

I can think of one reason why they might leave out the picture of a large explosion from the side of a sky scraper............if they hadn't already used it on the DVD released in 2007
