This film is very worthy of a FAC IMO, or at least it is when compared to some of the other titles that receive the premium treatment.

Good steel design too! My only complaint would be that the front looks a little crowded when compared to the back - I'd maybe move the characters from the front to the back (or possibly even remove them completely), and then drop the title down from the top to the bottom.

Here's a very quick edit (in gif form to show it with and without the characters) I made as an example...

That IS better...
But I have never been a fan of "Floating Heads in the Sky" art.

Yes it´s a good movie, but there are much better mafia movies to deserve a "premium" treatment....plenty of choices from Scorsese for a start :cigar::coffee:

Exactly. I've always felt this movie was "just another mob movie" after movies like Goodfellas and Casino and others. Made to cash in on the craze as so many mob films were being made in the 90's.

Kinda like in the 80's with all of the Vietnam movies after Platoon. Just too many.

If a movie exists on Blu-ray, there is at least one person somewhere in the world that wants a steelbook for it.
People mentioning that they want a steelbook for movies mentioned above is not surprising.
But do you actually want premium editions to spend hundreds of dollars on them?

Wow! I had no idea Criterion released those titles! I wish they would release them again on Blu. Especially since Dead Presidents isn't even out on bluray yet.
Yeah, some titles from Laser never made to Criterion DVD, and some Criterion DVD made it to Criterion Blu ray (largely due to them not being able to resecure the rights). I mean, they did some great films on laser - Criterion Bram Stoker's Dracula, Close Encounters, Blade Runner, The Monty Python Films etc.
Which means they got the full Criterion restoration treatment.
But, they have famously lost the rights to many titles they had previously released (like John Woo's HARD BOILD and THE KILLER) - But they have also recently gotten some rights back (like SILENCE OF THE LAMBS - which was previously on both CC DVD and Laserdisc).
Interesting note: when Criterion signed a deal to release some Disney titles (like Armageddon, The Rock) they signed a stipulation that when the rights went back to Disney, Disney got the rights to all the work that Criterion had done - So if you buy the Disney Blu ray of Armageddon or the Rock, it is REALLY the Criterion Collection edition.

There was a lot being made but this one stands the test of time for me. Maybe not as good as classic Scorsese but not too far behind IMO.

Very true ... which is where Zavvi comes in and I enjoy it so. ie. Menace II to Society steel etc.

Artwork not up to much but then again no standout original art available for this steelbook unfortunately . . .

If coming to steelbook in the UK we'd probably end up with one of these:- .........................................(quite like this one for a UK steelbook though)

. . . also quite like the simplicity of the HMV Premium Edition slipcased Amaray artwork:-
(won't go far wrong with this collection of classic films currently in one of their "2 for £15" promos)

Regarding older films (1980 and earlier) making it to steelbooks (at least in the UK) . . . maybe a better selection in other territories? . . . as few and far between here . . . making up a tiny percentage of the 1,200 approx. released in the UK to date (165 out of 1,223) . . .

2008
0 out of 3

2009
0 / 9

2010
4 / 22

2011
2 / 29

2012

2013

2014
52 / 218

2015
32 / 234

2016

2017

That being said many films recognised as blockbusters / crowd pleasers have yet to make it to steelbooks in the UK - or anywhere else (?) - including these selected randomly:-
THE FUGITIVE, WITNESS, IN THE LINE OF FIRE, MIDNIGHT RUN, THE TRUMAN SHOW, DAVE, THE LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, SHREK II, CROCODILE DUNDEE, ENEMY OF THE STATE (!?), GHOST, MADAGASCAR, THE FIRM (Cruise), RAIN MAN, GANDHI, SCHINDLER'S LIST, SCENT OF A WOMAN, THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, CRASH, THE BUCKET LIST, MEAN STREETS, FALLING DOWN, KRAMER VS. KRAMER, IF ..., THE CRYING GAME, ROSEMARY'S BABY, BEING THERE, DIRTY HARRY, FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE, WALKABOUT, PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK, WHEN HARRY MET SALLY, YOU'VE GOT MAIL, DANCES WITH WOLVES, MYSTIC RIVER, BABE, PRIZZI'S HONOR, JERRY MAGUIRE, THE VANISHING (1988), THE DAY OF THE JACKAL, DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978 & 2004), LOCAL HERO, THE INSIDER, MEMENTO, A BRONX TALE . . .

Of course premium retailers aren't stupid and they must be well aware of the likes of their client base so they stick on the whole to the mega modern films for their packages leaving the older classics/more interesting titles for the regular steelbook retailers
.

This is a very nice movie. But I don't collect FAC nor Black Barons anymore. I agree this movie is better than 20 or so of the last releases from FAC.
