For those interested, & disappointed in the US Target version, Future Shop has same Steelbook but is gloss paint, but just like Fast & Furious 6 it is very limited.

Pics or it didnt happen:p

but seriously we need pics in the FS thread if it really is gloss

Posts (with pics) over at bluray.com contradict this... not sure if we're allowed to link to other forums, but check the FS/BB Deals thread.

Looks exactly like the Target version, right down to the "five gobs of glue" under the paper slip.

Indeed, no linking to other forums. I checked there and didn't see pics of the FS one (unless I looked in the wrong thread).

Are we sure the FS release is glossy?

UPDATE:

Yep, false alarm, saw the pics over at BR, the FS release is also matte :(

Thanks thebard for the heads-up

So is it worth getting the UK release instead of the USA Target release, or will they be equivalent releases?

Try to hunt the USA Target release and get that imo, if you import it from UK your looking at more on shipping costs and perhaps dents or damage during transit. Of course it really all depends on how much you love the movie. For enthusiasts of this movie it's probably worth the extra $'s for a more glossy looking steel, for the rest of us the Target edition will suffice.

Expecting this to be gloss finished but still a nice addition to the collection. The bling raw metal effect of the exoskeleton on the front cover and inside art is a very nice touch. It does look like the inside is gloss finished...interesting.

You are right Rick - looks like a pseudo-photo illustration which is cool. Also I see there is now a SteelBook™ "logo" on the back cover now to go with the standard trademark inside.

I had a closer look at the FS Steelbook & looks like it is semi gloss with some metallic paint, not all gloss paint, just the Shrink wrap gave it that gloss look at first look.

Well, after visiting two different Targets about fifteen miles apart and searching the entire store, I finally found a single copy of the Elysium steelbook partially buried in this cart:

Fortunately it does not appear to be damaged through the plastic :) Unbelievable lol...one of my luckier steelbook triumphs!

Oh boy. Target just doesn't get it. Why sell an item that says "exclusive collectible packaging" if you're going to abuse it this way and others?

the workers are practically minimum wage and don't care about the item to them it is just another movie to stock. I mean yes would be cool if they took note but I doubt you will see any change any time soon

I finally found this steelbook, but I had to go to 3 Targets. I guess they didn't stock that many copies.

I noticed a few things about all the copies I saw. First, they all have paint chips. They all have misaligned spines (moved over to the right). And they all have a small ridge along the bottom of the back side (where it says "steelbook"). Are all copies like this, or did my Target just get a bad batch?

I will respectfully disagree with the notion that minimum wage and a lack of caring is the reason for the cart situation. I think throwing labels as such is not helpful and with no proof demeaning to those workers. Knowing people who work in the retail industry especially Walmart, what you see in the pic is called a return cart. When customers take items to the registers and change their minds, items are grouped into the respective departments they belong in and then given to the respective departments to put back up. This is what we see in that cart. DVDs, CDs......e.t.c.
