This is a great moment for the "Steelbook Collector Community" as now if a studio/retailer is willing to pay the premium they can now officially # all of the steels in a print run. Pretty unique in what they did with the roman numerals on the videogame steel.

I really hope we can get this going with a lot of the blu-ray steels.

Love the idea, especially the way they've used it here with the roman numerals. Really nice looking collector's edition too. As regards this being on a bluray release, how painful would it be to get a really low number, or a standout one like 1,000, only to notice a dent?
Would like to see it used, but hoping the extra cost is enough to put them off of doing it too often. Maybe low print-runs or perhaps anniversary editions of back catalogue titles.

Does they can engrave other things than numbers?
As they engrave roman number, maybe they can engrave something like : "HDN Exclusive Edition #001/500"... :D

I honestly think you will see it on 4k runs before anything else. Not sure if they will swing getting X numbered out of the global piggyback.

Its cool cause there will be no debating the run is 4k when it says such. :)

And yes they can engrave just about anything. I saw some other prototypes in person.

Certainly A Great Idea - It'll Increase The Price Of Some Though, As Someone Above Said The Number 1,000 Would Be A 'Must Have' Number.

In A Sense, It'll Almost Start A Lottery With Receiving A 'Must Have' Number! :D
