Just thought you guys would like to know that its finally been announced. I've had to hold my tongue on this for an entire year! But now its been officially announced.

Finally!

This is a great moment for the "Steelbook Collector Community" as now if a studio/retailer is willing to pay the premium they can now officially # all of the steels in a print run. Pretty unique in what they did with the roman numerals on the videogame steel.

I really hope we can get this going with a lot of the blu-ray steels.

Price Would Be The Main Concern Here, As The Engraving Will Increase Cost Thus Increase Price.

I'd Pay Upto Around £20 For A Steelbook, Although Higher Than This Is The Point Where I'll Have To Cut Back. :-

I would like to see this for small print runs, but would seem pointless to do it for every release, as it would only increase OCD in people who would prefer specific numbers. I also think that it will encourage scalpers with sought after numbers (like 1-10, 100, 500, 666, 1,000 etc) to demand much higher prices on eBay

While some people will prefer to have specific numbers, others will strive to obtain the lower numbered SteelBooks. Each is equal in my opinion, and should only be used to indicate that a particular release is one of a pre-determined print run (say, 500), rather than a competition to see who can get the lowest / highest number. Personally, I'm happy to just have a release that is so limited, and I don't really care what number I end up with

I can see The Entertainment Store taking full advantage of this though, and I expect that one of their next exclusives may feature this unique etching due to the limited nature of their releases

I'm interested to know whether these etchings also state how many there are total? Eg, #246 out of 1,000, or something similar.

they can ... in the sense of this VG release I believe the answer is no. Just a total print run of 22k as it says.

They can do signature editions (facsimile of course) but still pretty cool.

Saw a pretty neat fifa one where the soccer/football star had signed.

Kind of jogged the thought of when Best Buy USA had those Director Edition slipcovers with the facsimile sigs ... thought those would be cool in steel with the laser etching sig.

They'll probably re-release every Tom Cruise movie on steelbook with his laser engraved signature. Not good for the wallet since I'm in the process of collecting all of his current ones. :hilarious:
