I got the below email from Entertainment Store last night after enquiring about what they had lined up and it seems to be a clue pointing towards a forthcoming release. Really cool way of dropping details about their releases and hopefully this one comes out next!!

Fingers crossed! I assume it's Forbidden Planet from that pic. If anyone has any other guesses then shout

Another one for October? ****ing hell, that makes 26 UK Steelbooks by my count in October. EEK! :(

Yeah, that is pretty much my only problem with this. Still Natural Born Killers was an easy pass and I do LOVE the artwork for this so I think I'll pop an order in anyway. Think my wallet will be glad when that month is over.

Good to see a new retailer doing steels at the cheaper end of the spectrum though and, if the quality is good, then hopefully we'll see a few more. (A few more guys - not like TEN a week, yeah?)

Quite tempted by this, but got too many others on preorder. I'm not sure this will sell out so will try and pick it up at some point

Some comments on this forum regarding pre-1980s cinema just astound me. So cinema only got good with Star Wars did it? No love for The Godfather or Lawrence of Arabia, to name but two of many brilliant films made before that date?

I'm all for people having opinions but that's just nonsensical and irrational.

I dont watch films because im supposed to. I watch what i find enjoyable. I dont really care whether these films are supposed to be brilliant, the fact is, im the one watching so i decide what i like and dont like.

Older films just dont interest me. Simple as that. Lawrence of arabia i wouldnt dream of watching and the godfather is not my cup of tea. Thank you for your interest in my personal movie watching habits

Why even come on this thread and declare you won't watch the film? Don't do that and I won't take an interest in your 'movie watching habits'.

I get having genre preferences, but to decide you won't like something because it was made before a certain year is ignorant in the extreme. That's effectively saying "Oh I love Goodfellas and other gangster films, but I can't bring myself to watch two widely-considered masterpieces of the genre, The Godfather Parts I and II, because they were made before 1977."

I know, hilarious isn't it?

Kids today aye?

I blame the parents!

How do you know you wouldn't like them, if you haven't watched them?

Still, your loss.

It would be a shame not to watch so many cinematic gems because you have pigeon-holed them by a date though. Of course I can't tell you what to watch. Heaven forbid I might want to give someone else enjoyment by recommending them a good movie to watch which they might not normally have considered :p

But there are so many great films pre-1977 which the majority of modern films pay homage to, that it's always nice to appreciate the source of such content. Pre-1977 movies in general were all very good. There wasn't the spare $$$m to throw at dross because a rapper / singer / wrestler or other sports star thinks they can copy what someone else did and star in a blockbuster, turn a profit and assume that the 'audience' wants another 3 sequels. The films were mainly very well acted in and original in their material. The scripts were clever and you can see the care that was put into bringing the whole production together.

This still happens today which is refreshing, but too many movies get made to tick a box or fill a gap or tie in with a seasonal event that the good stuff gets somewhat lost in-among all the noise.

Anyway, certain films stand out as very important in cinematic history and FP is one of those that essentially sits under the 'cult classic' genre and really deserves a viewing. If anyone is sat on the fence as to whether to get this, other than for that sexy artwork, then I'd recommend giving it a shot. The worst that can happen is that you end up on here having a moan about it ;)

Don't know why people are moaning about ES, they have released a great classic sci-fi movie that no one else has thought of doing as a steelbook and at a reasonable price £14.99, just hoping there are plenty of extras or bonus material as they seem to keep it a secret with all their pre-orders.

Not sure anyone is moaning, but I still wouldn't say this is an excellent price. An excellent price would be £10-12 which is what most of the trade wide non-exclusives get priced at. £14.99 is the high end of the non-Disney catalogue releases.

It looks great and I'm tempted but I don't think I'd pay more than about £12. Will have to see what they ask for this when it goes live. I'm not hopeful but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Having looked at my Play.com account, which I haven't used in months, it seems I have enough super points to bring this to an acceptable price. Have therefore ordered it.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

I came on here because the release intrigued me. I hadnt heard of the film before and upon further investigation on amazon found out it was an oldie.

I dont like old movies. I dont like the acting style, the settings, the music....nothing. I only said 1977 as the cutoff point as its the oldest a movie has been where ive enjoyed it.

Anyways enough of this pointless interrogation, in future ill think twice about what i write to avoid any kind of elitist arguments

The golden rule - you are not permitted to write anything in a thread unless its positive towards the movie in question :oohyeah:

And here was me thinking this site was free of antagonising and pointless elitism. Guess i was wrong :naughty:

You may not pay more than £12 for this but not so long back i was getting £20 plus for this on dvd when it was a deleted title, it's a classic movie and there will always be someone intrested in buying this.

Oh I'm not being elitist. Just rational.

Folks, HDN includes 1000's of members with all different movie tastes-from all decades, genres, styles, etc. This debate of modern vs classic films, and all related tastes and topics are what cinema appreciation is all about. One person's gem is another's bird cage liner. Our site welcomes all opinions on films. Debate is fine, just don't have it get personal,or needs to move to PM's. If you experience a more personal issue with a member that goes beyond the discussion of the film itself, and cannot be resolved with a few PM's, just use the 'report' feature, or let a Moderator know. Personally, I am glad that some companies are leaving the 'cookie cutter' films aside a bit and tapping into a variety of different titles, that match a plethora of tastes. Every film is not for everyone, but any company that takes a chance on interesting (all relative, of course) titles deserves at least some credit for exploring opportunities for a variety of film enthusiasts. As I've gotten older I have explored films from all time periods-all of these films are precursors to what is now, and for me, that 'perspective' has been one of the coolest things about appreciating film-but to each their own.

nice to see some of the more 'unexpected' movies getting steelbook treatments, ie, long overlooked or often forgotten gems that many people may be unaware even exist. a few more independant releases would be more than welcome, instead of the typical 'guaranteed moneyspinners', though whether studios would be prepared to stick their necks out and take risks with less popular or lesser known titles is something we probably won't see much of, unfortunately.

Been planning to pick this up on Blu-ray for ages and now is the perfect time. That artwork is fantastic! I think it looks so good that I'm happily willing to pay extra 16 pounds just to get that steelbook from the group buy. (Regular edition is available for around seven pounds)

I'm hoping someone will do a steelbook for The Day Earth Stood Still (the '51 original of course) too. Already have it on Blu-ray but the cover is absolutely hideous.

You submit your opinion on an open internet forum. It's completely open to interpretation and discussion by anyone that reads it and also answers. Shame about that. You can write what you like, just don't be surprised if you get a response.

This site is (almost) free of antagonising and I'm sure there's no elitism of any kind. Like what you like, it's a free world.

I'm just shocked that someone can post to a movie fan site (with regards to how they are released) and declare that all movies 'pre-a certain date' are worthless (what defines the cut-off date - your date of birth?). Especially when they haven't even seen them.

Again, pointless being annoyed that a 'classic' is getting recognised in some way. Save your emotion for something worthwhile; unfortunately, we'll all need to.
