I recieved an email today from Eureaka saying that they had recieved some more stock of this and were in the process of checking them all, although he said that some had the same issue with scratches on but they are hoping to sort them and send out replacements by the weekend. They will be unsealed though.

Come Brexit there may well be competition but that is some way offf yet.
Scanavo's patents will still be in force post brexit. The Government stated in November that it intends to ratify the Unified Patents Court Agreement.

Surely an unsealed steelbook is no different to a sealed one? You have already opened it to see it is damaged and you will get an undamaged one in its place?

Fair point . . . that's why I wrote "not sure what I feel" . . . but I still feel that replacements should be in a sealed condition a la JACK REACHER and many here will remember that one was reprinted (500 original + 500 reprinted) because of a barely visible vertical hairline from the last "R" of the title on the front if I remember correctly and without checking my copy.

I don't think JR was "reprinted", just stock re-allocated and checked. It was Entertainment Store's first exclusive so they wanted to get it right.

Why Eureka doesn't inform Scanavo of the issues widely reported across the forums is way, way beyond my understanding - the issues of the backs are surely worthy reporting and there must be an argument for a partial re-print
Also, not sure what I feel about unsealed steelbooks being sent out instead on a new batch being printed.

Their too Fright-ened I guess, Scanavo should be offering better customer service and not acting like they don't make mistakes, companies should call them out on things more, they may take more notice then.

Those scratches might not of happened at Scanavo
Dude, I'm not going to get into an argument about who's responsible for the scratches but I think it's safe to say that they happened either during the manufacturing process or during the packing process - i.e. before the j-cards were put on.
Also, there definitely was a JACK REACHER re-print which collectors around at the time will remember - Entertainment Store actually sent out replacements to all customers that bought original print copies with red hairline and were informed they could keep the originals.

Email from The Entertainment Store (April 2013):

"Thank you for purchasing a copy of the Jack Reacher Entertainment Store Exclusive Steelbook.

Our supplier (Paramount Home Entertainment (UK)) has informed us of a manufacturing issue whereby there is a very fine scratch running down the right hand side of the front cover.

As this is our first exclusive Steelbook, we want to make sure you have the beautiful mint Steelbook you ordered, not one with a scratch down the front.

Paramount has kindly offered to arrange for re-manufacture of the entire run of 500 Steelbooks (and no more). We, The Entertainment Store, will be automatically sending out a replacement copy to you free of charge.

There is no need to return the defective version you originally received – you are free to keep this.

However, if you have chosen or do choose to return your original copy to us for a refund then we will not be able to send you a replacement free of charge.

Creating new stock will take several weeks and this means you can expect to receive your replacement copy around w/c 27th May 2013.

Thank you for your patience with this matter, and apologies for any inconvenience caused."

On the other hand, I remember reading about the 2012 release RED DWARF X DVD steelbook that had horizontal scratches across the front and there was no re-print as far as I can remember.
Can't say I can see them in this pic - the well reported scratches across the front . . . and anyway obviously harder to see when there's artwork and a less dark background:-

So is Eureka handling the final process, as in the packaging? Why was this steelbook release so easily scratched and paint chipped by whoever handled it?

Scanavo ships the Steels to another company in the supply chain (e.g. Sony DADC)...And from there get's distributed to the Warehouses.

Scratches could be caused here

Don't call me dude, dude  Anyways, Eureka can guess where the scratches happened.

My option is a "Scanavo re-run" takes longer than Entertainment Store's replacements. It happened too fast. It's easier and quicker for good stock to be re-allocated, "reprint" the J-card, add the disc, seal and ship out.

All the fright night steelbooks have the faint scratches on the back in the exact same areas including those that consider they have a mint copy but it's not that noticeable unless you go looking for them
As it's on all of the steelbooks it's something that happened at scanavo it's not scratches that happened due to how been handled afterwards
It's something that happened when paint was applied.

Some other customers got a steelbook with extra scratches but these scratches are different to the faint ones on all of the steelbooks on the back

The plain back colour makes it easier to spot the faint scratches on the back when you look at a angle under a light if the back had of had more artwork instead of a colour plain back it more than likely would not have even been noticed by most collectors.

To me it's not scratches but something that went wrong with the colour paint been applied that caused matte paint sheen not be uniform

I still think Eureka have not supplied all the stock to zavvi but it's only a small amount
