Further to the excellent examples above just a few other examples of remakes (reboots if you must) that I enjoy as much as I enjoy the originals and which I consider to be as good as / if not better than the originals:-

TRUE GRIT 2010 / ditto 1969..................... HEAVEN CAN WAIT 1978 / HERE COMES MR. JORDAN 1943........................ CAPE FEAR 1991 / ditto 1962...............................3:10 TO YUMA 2007 / ditto 1957.......... DAWN OF THE DEAD 2004 / ditto 1978............................... THE STEPFORD WIVES 20045 / ditto 1975 .............................. A STAR IS BORN 1954 / ditto 1937 ..................... PIRANHA 2010 / ditto 1978......... RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES 2011 / CONQUEST OF THE PLANET OF THE APES 1972.............................. A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS 1964 / YOJIMBO 1961 ...................................................... CASINO ROYALE 2006 / ditto 1967................................... OCEAN'S ELEVEN 2001 / ditto 1960................................................. THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2006 / ditto 1976.................................. THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO 2011 / ditto 2009.................................THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR 1999 / ditto 1968 ............................................TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2003 / ditto 1974 , ........................................THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT 2009 / 1972 . . .

On a horror theme to fit in with this thread there are of course the Hammer remakes / reboots - and countless others - of Universal's top three classic horror films:- DRACULA 1931 / Hammer 1958 ...................................... FRANKENSTEIN 1932 / THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN Hammer 1957.............................and THE MUMMY 1932 / Hammer 1959 .................................

Worst remake for me personally was THE VANISHING 1993 of the stunningly creepy THE VANISHING 1988 - same director.

2 copies pre-ordered.
