Well, I'm not suggesting they make the prices ridiculously expensive, just more so. Also not suggesting they do this for every exclusive, just ones that are limited to only 1000 copies (which almost guarantees getting sold out).

As we've seen on eBay, some people are willing to pay $200 for these. So they clearly really want these. My point is: If the price point is too much for you, then you simply don't want it as badly as some others do. So let people who really want it, get it.

Just because you can't afford something doesn't mean you want it any less than someone that can afford it. I don't agree or disagree with your thoughts about raising the price, but I do disagree with that assumption.

He's right though, why take up a spot in the GB if you don't even like the product/price?

He's not right at all. Nothing about this was officially confirmed on forehand. Also, me saying I was disappointed just means I had high expectations. I completely agreed with chilean's post before, which stated that this is still a great release. I just had the (false) hope that it would be exclusive artwork.

Please take a chill pill before you verbally attack people who have the courage to say something slightly negative about a product we all love.

I'm not attacking you, just asking a valid question. Sorry if you took that the wrong way. I wasn't commenting under the assumption that you thought this was going to be exclusive artwork. I thought most people knew it was going to be the same worldwide artwork on the Steelbook. Now that I know where you're coming from, I can understand the frustration.

Fair point, but keep in mind that these ultra-low orders seem to be limited to ones that are non-worldwide exclusive. The steelbook itself is the same as everywhere else, so raising the price point by a few more dollars should at least discourage some people who feel they are okay with spending less money at say Zavvi.

Also, while I wouldn't suggest raising the price to anything crazy like triple digits, steelbooks are a luxury, not a necessity. Anyone who can afford to buy a few steelbooks (avg cost ~$30-40) could buy a Thor 2 on eBay for ~$200 by simply not buying other steelbooks for a little while, and their willingness to do that is also a function of how much they want that Thor 2. A more reasonable price point of say $60-80 could easily be saved for by just not buying a couple other steelbooks that you only "moderately" want, and would probably cull demand significantly.

Uh, but it was definitely confirmed to be non-exclusive artwork from the very beginning. Choi explicity said so in the 16th post of this thread. I don't think he can be blamed for your misconceptions.

1 of the main reasons why people like Kimchi's exclusives more than Blufans ones is because of the lower prices. If Kimchi raise their prices, I'm sure a lof of people will stick with Blufans since they have WEA most of the time.

That would be a good thing. There are only 1000 copies. At the current price of ~$60 shipped, they sold out in <20 minutes total. I'm fairly confident that if they were raised just a bit, it would still sell out - It would just take longer. If you are okay sticking to blufans, then that probably means you didn't want it that much. So this frees up a copy for someone who does really want it and also gives Kimchidvd a little more money.

There is a serious fallacy in your argument. Your point may be valid for certain high priced commodities, but for steelbooks it seems foolish. When commodities are overpriced, consumers start looking for substitutes- be it other brands or in this case other store exclusive. This market for collectible steelbooks seems to be a growing one, as less than a year ago Blufans was the only well known player in the Asian market. I'm sure Tony knows that customers have a choice, which is why he has this effective value proposition in place. If you see on eBay a collectible steelbook such as Iron Man FS has sold countless times for $800+, does this indicate that this particular steelbook should have been sold for around $400 seeing how some people are willing to pay over twice that amount? Although this is a niche item to collect for, I'm sure the change in pricing dynamics would have a direct effect on the demand. If the price for this steelbook would have been higher, I'm certain it would not have sold out at the record time that it did. The fact that people abuse of others willing to pay is an unfortunate event. A price hike would not deter a scalper from purchasing the item, instead it would just allow him/her to resell it at a higher price. If Kimchi were to raise the price of their exclusives, where only a few could pay the premium- then another company would see the opportunity to enter the market. It's not about what people can or can't afford, rather offering an exceptional value proposition. I think most people are more than happy/ comfortable with the current pricing scheme. The way Choi and the HDN staff handled the sale of this exclusive, gave almost everyone who wanted one the chance to obtain a copy- so there was no need to raise the price for the reasons given. That said, I respect your opinion and I enjoy our discrepancy regarding our points of view :D

Good points, but I think you're only looking at the extreme case, when I'm only proposing a moderate price hike, to discourage the casually/moderately interested buyer.

The point is not to raise prices so that only a "few could pay the premium", but so that ~1000 people will pay it. There is no point in selling out in 5 minutes, which is a miserable experience for everyone.

I personally think the price is perfect! It's slightly more expensive than the version being released in most markets, and it probably can be attributed more towards the human resources spent rather than the price of the slip or art cards. From what I have gathered, Choi and Tony really care about this community, and Kimchi doesn't seem concerned about playing with the price to see how much people would be willing to pay. Choi himself stated early on that the price was set by Disney not Kimchi, insinuating that maybe the price might have been a little lower if it were up to the Kimchi staff. If you think of a company such as Apple, although their products are not limited- they usually sell out and are months out of stock. Should Apple increase the price to accommodate those that want it more- even if it were ever so slightly? Again the correlation may be logical for some items, but for others it simply does not make sense. There will always be people willing to pay more for an item, but there comes a point where an increase in price could hurt the company more than being an asset. As much as someone may want an iPhone 5S (paying ridiculous prices on eBay,) if it becomes too expensive than the consumer may very well look across the pond and go for the Nexus 5 (except for the kid who sold his kidney, I guess he wanted that iPad regardless of the price :hilarious:)

If the price ever were to go up, I would hope it would be due to an amplification of human resources (Kimchi decided to hire Choi!)- or because they added more value to the product. In these cases Kimchi could definitely raise the price to that $60-$80 price range without much consumer backlash- but as of now just because they can raise the price, doesn't mean it would be wise to do so.

Anyway thanks for being polite throughout the discussion! I'm sure Tony and the Kimchi staff have their own way to calculate the best market price for these items :D

I am so excited for this particular steelbook- way to go Kimchidvd :oohyeah:

Stay classy Choi...you should appreciate any form of feedback, positive and negative.

@barrycameron Fair enough, but it was never officially confirmed.

Choi is classy. He's the best liaison between a steelbook retailer and collectors in this entire game. Im not even entirely clear on what role Choi plays in this whole operation with KDVD, but I do know that I appreciate all his hard work, diligence, dedication, patience, insight, and professionalism. And that ain't no joke.

Folks you are discussing a different price from the retailer but Choi informed us that the price was set at $49 by Disney, not KimchiDVD.

True, but I think that was because the price point was higher than usual ($44.99), so Choi was simply providing an explanation for the extra $4. I would be surprised if Disney could prevent any retailer from raising their prices, though maybe they did as well.

Today I saw 1/4 slip image. wow it looks amazing.!!!

Sooner or later kimchidvd will announce package shot soon.

few of extra (like character artcard) is being waited for approval.

fyi.

So cant wait to see package shots! This will look PERFECT next to Tangled :oohyeah:

Thanks for the update! Also the GB :scat:
