So sad,

Looks like Future Shop did abolish a few positions again, all departments managers have been offered a regular sales person position or were offered to leave.

Doesn't sound good for the future at all :ohno:

It's getting harder and harder for brick and mortar stores like this to stay in business. It's a shame but this is part of doing business. Sorry for those members directly affected.

Why would they do this Mehdi?

Even tho they have generated a profit, they came to the conclusion that they were spending too much of the budget for the employees, and decided to abolish some positions.

Example: the store close to my place made $300.000 profit this year when they were expecting $1.500.000

By letting some of the staff go, they'll get close to their objectives.

MEHDI..Would this downfall in turnover be due to the economic situation world wide or is it more online sales that is killing the instore bricks and mortar sales.
We are currently having the same concerns here in Australia but mainly due to internet sales..bricks and mortar cannot keep their cost as low.And internet sales are skyrocketing.

I don't like to be a pessimist, but people who didn't see this coming or think it won't affect them in the future are blind. The only thing that will remain in shopping malls is food courts and washrooms. Everything else will be cheaper online.:(

Yes your spot on there mate...In Australia our $ is so high because of our economy is still going up..We pay more here for such things as our steels and blu's for exactly that reason, Approx 10-15 $ more and our downloads for music ect is far more expensive than most other countries..
All retailers (bricks/motar) have had to downsize or stop their expansion rate due to the high rents from landlords that have only their pockets to concern themselves with..Staff are getting laid off everywhere as the retailer is combatting higher costs and the increasing on line shoping..as customers can get cheaper overseas.
Some of our biggest bricks/mortar retailers have now had to open online stores to compete..These same stores only a few years ago vowed they would not go online...

I overheard some staff at my local FS joking around saying that they could technically call themselves the "manager" now.

This must have been what they were talking about.

Damn... that's sad... :(
But unfortunately, I can totally understand... the economy... the "progress" of on-line purchases...

Tx for the news Mehdi... sad... just sad... :(

Lets just say where I work we have tons of ex Future Shop & Best Buy employees applying... they really are axing there work force. B&M just cant compete with online, ESPECIALLY IN CANADA. So many Canadian's buy online from USA retailers which Canadian retailers online cant even get close to matching let alone B&M stores in Canada.

In USA while B&M is on the decline is still re-aliging itself with online giants like Amazon to survive. Best Buy USA's recent policy to try and eliminate "show rooming" and match prices from all major online retailers year around will go a long way in helping them stick around.
