That is nuts, just saw it on the news. Employees showed up for work and were notified of the closing.

Looks like an end of a steelbook era. I wonder if this drive the price up on existing steels?

U.S.-based electronics retail giant Best Buy Co. is closing its 131 Future Shop stores Saturday and will re-open 65 of them in a week under the Best Buy banner in a bid to bolster business.

I would hope that all the Future Shop Exclusives will soon be moving over to Best Buy.

Thankfully I already work on both sides. I don't know how this affects me, but don't be worried. I've had conversations internally with senior management that lead me to believe the Mondo X line will be moved over.

Future Shop stores across Canada are closing, Best Buy Canada has confirmed.

Company spokesman Thierry Lopez says 66 Future Shops will close for good, while 65 others will become Best Buy Stores.

Lopez says the converted stores will reopen after a one-week closure.

The move will mean there will be a total of 192 Best Buys in Canada.

Lopez says 500 full-time and 1,000 part-times jobs will lost.

This sucks , FS is in the mall close by , BB is on it;s own and will probably take over the FS store , but their BD prices were always more -Im pissed

i have 3 futureshop in my locals area and there are 3 best buy in the same parking lot and same building

I am sorry to hear that this is happening and a those people will be losing their jobs.

On another note, I wonder if this means they will now be shipping international or at least to the US for all future releases.

Sorry to hear this is happening. I suspect at least two stores here in Edmonton (South Edmonton Common & West Edmonton) will be closed as the FS and BB were 5 minutes away from each other. I will admit the BB customer Service was always accommodating, where as FS it was like pulling teeth especially when it came to price matching and SCOP. I suspect the shrinking Canadian dollar had something to do with it as well.

I hope they will still honor outstanding gift card balances.

66 stores closing... 1000 job lost... This is the most sadenning part of this news.

For the rest us collector/shopper, we all know this won't mather too much as I'm sure as Best Buy already owned Future Shop that it won't change the stock/exclusive.
Pretty sure they will just change the logo and that's it.

But with this AND Target closing too, all in a few weeks, this shows how bad the economy is going here in Canada.
What's next? HMV? Source?

The choices that we have now are more and more limited and I hope Amazon.ca will increase their range of products like they do on the .com version as we are more and more limited...

Oh... Maybe Best Buy could get more and more place too... ;-)

That Future Shop Logo was the most prestigious in collecting for me. That's why I never took any sticker with it off my FS Editions. This is devasting as Best Buy doesn't carry the standard or physical media spacing of Future Shop. Once the biggest name in the game is closing its doors for good. This day will live in infamy.

As many know, collectors rely and obsess over consistency in packaging, and with Future Shop's MONDO x Line I assume now going under the Best Buy logo...

Forget it. I guess in the grand scheme of things this just makes the Future Shop brand even more collectible. #RIPFS

P.S. I would like to send my apologies to the Future Shop employees that this move effected the most.

Glad zerox39 will still be actively involved. That was my first thought when I read the news lol. Hope anyone else on the boards who works w FS retains their employment. I'm sure Canada will continue to produce awesome unique steels.
