New York, N.Y., July 1, 2015 - The smash hit HBO series Game of Thrones has sat atop the Iron Throne of the home entertainment charts as the best-selling TV on Blu-ray/DVD title in each of the last four years. The box sets are popular among fans for their extensive bonus content that takes diehard viewers even further into the world of Westeros. Now a new Steelbook collectors release is bringing a whole new dimension to the series with the addition of a Dolby Atmos soundtrack and brand new box art designed by the team that created the series' Emmy® Award-winning title sequence. Seasons 1 and 2 will be available in the new Steelbook format for $79.98 each on November 3, 2015, just in time for holiday gifting season. Seasons 3 and 4 will release on the heels of the first two seasons, with release date details coming soon.

The Steelbook sets feature brand new box art designed by Elastic, the agency responsible for the series' Emmy® Award-winning opening credits. Each Steelbook showcases a specific location that is significant to that season and includes usable magnets on packaging featuring Game of Thrones sigils and symbols:

o Season 1 packaging features Winterfell, where fans are introduced to the Stark family in the series premiere. The magnet for Season 1 is the direwolf sigil of House Stark.

o In Season 2, the Lannisters' influence is keenly felt from the Iron Throne and their sigil is included on packaging set in King's Landing, where the season's pivotal Battle of the Blackwater occurs.

o Season 3 features the magnet sigil of House Frey and their ancestral seat of the Twins-the location of this season's infamous Red Wedding.

o Season 4 features the icy landscape of Castle Black and the Wall, where the brothers of the Night's Watch fend off an army of wildlings from the far north. The magnet for this season features a crow and Jon Snow's sword, Longclaw.

In addition to all of the bonus content from the previous Blu-ray sets, the Game of Thrones Steelbook is the first TV on Blu-ray title to be released with the revolutionary new audio technology Dolby Atmos. The Blu-ray features a newly remixed Dolby Atmos soundtrack, which places and moves sounds and music anywhere in the room, including overhead, creating a captivating experience that brings entertainment alive all around the audience. With the new Steelbook set, fans can hear Daenerys's dragons swoop past them and feel the soaring score rise and fall around them. To experience Dolby Atmos at home, Dolby Atmos-enabled AV receivers and additional speakers are required; however, Dolby Atmos soundtracks are fully backward compatible with traditional audio configurations and legacy home entertainment equipment and will automatically play in the best possible way.

How else are they going to include the new Dolby Atmos audio tracks? ;)
That's true on this occasion forgot about that

If they can fit all the content on 4 Discs instead of 5 without loosing anything then that's fine if that's possible and not affect picture quality bit rate

Hopefully we will see actual in hand sample of the steelbook to see if Jumbo or not
Amazon listing when goes up will not be a great guide as to the number of discs as they often list wrong details

Ideally these need to be 4 Discs so they are standard steelbook size at the moment none of us know yet

It is totally possible to get five discs into a standard sized steelbook...they just won't do it for some reason.
With standard blu-ray cases its possible but so far Scanavo have only made standard steelbook cases have max of 4 discs
They could I suppose have 2 Discs either side and a disc insert hold the 5th disc but so far they not done a standard steelbook with this configuration yet
The 4 Disc Steelbook cases are 1 disc each side and disc insert to hold 2 more discs = 4 Discs

With 5/6 Discs its a Jumbo Steelbook case

Like I said...it easily CAN be done they just for some reason won't.

Isn't it possible, since these have the Dolby Atmos added, that these may be completely new disc releases... And since they were able to get season 4 down to four discs.... Maybe they will do the same with these??

Either way...They will be mine!!! :naughty:

I'd prefer them doing 5 or 6 discs to be honest, not bothered if they end up jumbo steels.

The existing picture quality on some of the episodes that they have squeezed onto discs are not as good as ones they have let breath. No doubt the Atmos track will be larger than the DTS HD-MA tracks, leaving less space on the discs. If they re-encode the video and give it a larger bitrate and, as I say, let them breath, then I'll be happy to pay premium price!

Well one way these might be slim (if they haven't crammed all the discs into 1 slim case) is that each season could be 4 separate steelbooks placed in a large slip box (which would explain the images shown), this could also maybe "justify" the high price?

The description and current art work does make it very vague what exactly we are getting in terms of the actual steelbooks

You can't get 5 discs in a none jumbo G2 steelbook. If you put more than 1 disc on either side, the central holder of the rear disc overlaps with the edge of the disc in front of it, meaning it has to be raised up. If you did that on both sides, the case probably wouldn't close. There certainly wouldn't be room for the tray in the middle. That's why with 4 discs they use one on each side and the tray in the middle; There's no overlapping, so it's flatter.

The only reason 2 on each side and a tray in the middle works in G1 steelbooks is that the disc edges don't overlap with the holders.

Personally when this happens with TV series, I'd rather they just split the series into 2 steelbooks. Give us the extra bonus discs from the special editions too, and make it two 3 disc G2 steelbooks a series.

I will be waiting to see the actual steelbooks in hand I wont be pre ordering when they go live

We don't know yet if other countries are getting these so far we only know USA and pre-order will be on Amazon at some stage
Its possible there might be UK or other countries getting these steelbooks

The Price is only the MSRP price the actual retail price will be less how much less is not known and even then it will most likely drop in price even at a later stage

If these are Jumbo or not Jumbos at the moment is not known
I'm in no rush to get these so I will be waiting on 3 things
1)Actual pre order price/price drops
2)In hand actual photos/videos to see exactly what we are getting and if Jumbo or not
3)If other retailers in other countries getting these

There is no announcement of a print run so these could end up having a large print run especially if other countries getting these

Going To give these a miss ATM will wait till when the show is over and see if they actually continue the run unlike a certain TV show set of steel books.

Ahh the good ole days of G1 steelbooks where they would do a random steelbook and never finish the set or start in the middle. Battlestar Galactic had like 3 seasons done, Doctor Who got a random season 4. Heck even recently Walking Dead only start with season 3 and then did 4.
