From IMDB
The Los Angeles Times talked to Dan Aykroyd about Ghostbusters 3 that is in development at Columbia Pictures. Here are several excerpts:

Aykroyd said Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad of ectoplasmic specialists -- Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.

"We could be in production by winter."

Aykroyd said he wishes Ivan Reitman would return to direct the third film in the series but that he's "too busy as a mega-producer" to take it on; his second choice is Ramis, who, of course, co-wrote the first two "Ghostbusters" films with Aykroyd and has numerous directing credits, most notably "Groundhog Day" and "Analyze This."

The details of story are still in play, but Aykroyd said he's hoping for a five-member "new generation" team with several female members. "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."

Wiig is the only choice that I approve of. I don't know the two SNL women. Melissa McCarthy is the worst thing that Hollywood has spewed out since Gigli. All she does is roll around and curse. She's not funny whatsoever. Must be nice to have a "sugar daddy" director that gives you all the roles. As soon as I saw Paul Weig sign on, I knew that we were going to get that talentless woman as a Ghostbuster. I'm not amused.

A reboot in the tradition of the original could have worked. I could even imagine Seth Rogen playing Egon. Had he behaved himself, that is.

And even had a Jack Black type star taking the role of Venkman. Would have been great.

Rogen could've played an excellent Ghostbuster. There's no reason that this is all-female. It's silly. They could've easily mixed it up and made it 50/50. There doesn't even need to be only four Ghostbusters. They could've had five or six. The fact that this is a reboot because Feig was too lazy to explain the last 20 years really annoys me, too. The GBs got everything under control, ghost problems died out and they retired. Twenty years later, the ghosts are back, but the originals are too old to fight ghosts. Bring in the newbies and pass the torch. Could've made it an adaptation of Extreme Ghostbusters, even... with Ray replacing Egon.

Ugh. And now I hear that Bill Murray may appear in this?! Come on. If Murray appears in this, I'll lose respect for him.

Well, I feel for the guy. The next year is gonna be a tough one on Paul Feig- y'know, being one of the most despised people in America for pooping on a national treasure...
(Will Melissa McCarthy be doing the pooping again??)

Seth would have been great.I would have been down for a reboot with two women and two men. That would make a for a great team dynamic.Men: Seth and anyone but James Franco. The women would be harder to cast.Would they go younger or middle age?Emma Stone would be a great second and maybe Zoe Deschannel?

This movie is like Bridesmaids + Cacoon+ Ghostbusters. The female cast is kinda up in age.

Yeah, exactly Who is the target audience here?? Guys are not going for staring at the women, that's for damn skippy!

:rofl:In all honesty, this is not what Ackroyd really wanted. It was what Murray wanted. And for the sake of desperation they made this.

But the real question is, is it what the fans wanted?

'What did you do Ray?'

'I tried to think of the worst reboot. Something that could never ever possibly be as good as the original.'

well just looking on ibdm at the cast to be 'pc' all female, then applied stereo types this will be a huge flop i really wonder if this be biggest flop of the year.
i suspect be better dumping there money into a whole in the ground and dig it back up after the film would give them a better return, studio will bomb with this, it has all been played completely wrong and all because of egos of people like murray as one example.
It's shame really screams train wreck to me what a waste!
