From IMDB
The Los Angeles Times talked to Dan Aykroyd about Ghostbusters 3 that is in development at Columbia Pictures. Here are several excerpts:

Aykroyd said Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad of ectoplasmic specialists -- Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.

"We could be in production by winter."

Aykroyd said he wishes Ivan Reitman would return to direct the third film in the series but that he's "too busy as a mega-producer" to take it on; his second choice is Ramis, who, of course, co-wrote the first two "Ghostbusters" films with Aykroyd and has numerous directing credits, most notably "Groundhog Day" and "Analyze This."

The details of story are still in play, but Aykroyd said he's hoping for a five-member "new generation" team with several female members. "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."

I still listen to her old albums, .... So addictive and the 2 after Aaliyah's death were amazing ( under construction and this is not a test), some great music and rap features from other artists too but that was laughable. Like lil bow wow - basketball or somthing along those lines lol

Yeah she's been gone a while and I think her last album bombed so she would jump straight on the soundtrack that could possibly be the worst film this year lol

I remember when 'Get Ur Freak On' came out and was a huge hit... it got played so much that it did my head in after a bit though lol. Aw man, why'd you have to mention Aaliyah?! She was great too... I have her album somewhere. Missy's time has past now unfortunately... the majority of people that used to be in to her have grown up and moved on with their taste in music. Her old stuff is still awesome though! :D

Spoiler Alert!!
Do Not Read if you don't want to know!!

Maybe I went in expecting to hate it, expecting it to be a piss take, maybe because I love the original so much on principle I'd hate it. However I wanted to see and I am so glad I did. I loved, I absolutely loved it. Yes I know people are going to criticise it because it's women and maybe on principle they don't want to embrace it and I was that person and if you are too, please ignore that and go and see this movie.
Does it have a couple of silly moments, yes, a few crude jokes, yes but it's a great film, I loved it. For me as I said I was worried about it being a piss take, it is the opposite, for me it has real heart, magic, real authenticity, loved the music, loved the acting.

I absolutely loved Ecto 1, I loved Slimer driving Ecto 1, I love that the graphics weren't over the top just right, they got everything just right for me I felt almost like clapping at the end. I loved the original cast cameos they almost brought a tear to my eye.

I mean before I saw it I was kinda against it being women even as a woman but having seen it now and how enjoyable I found it, I thought for young girls and maybe even any girl/woman it had a real feeling that we can be ghostbusters and be central characters. I know a lot of people (including the usual suspects on here) will continue their dislike for this on principle no matter what but for me this film was awesome. I really hope it gets a steelbook release and does do well despite the stigma as its an really enjoyable movie.

Girlfriend dragged me to it yesterday.
Didn't like for me i could see Sandler, James, Lawrence and Rogen realistically coming up with a similar script IMHO and it would be panned (and rightly so) But then again I came in wanting to hate this film (so my opinion is going to be heavily biased i will say that, i'm just fed up with all these effing remakes of films that don't need it and to doing with a crap script and filming (Looking at you robocop and total recall) It's slightly annoying actually because i thought the performances where good Lesie Jones had a good performance but my god talk about playing up stereotypes. I also don't get the whole killing the undead type of thing that came into place halfway through. Look i dislike feig TBH and IMO if another Director was in charge of this TBH i could see it being alot better.

To stress this is nothing about it being an all female cast at all, i'm just tired of Lazy Hollywood TBH where is the originality of it why in the 80's could Hollywood allow a original film with prob the greatest most badass female and TBH character in general in Alien take so long to make another female character with similar badass status in Mad Max Fury Road (With the odd character in between like Matrix and Underworld? Now why can't they make a more family version of that for the younger versions? Why can't Hollywood think of original story lines for Reboots in general?

Look this film will be worth it if it leads to many of the younger female generation looking into Ghostbuster and through that lead on to other comedy classics of that time which might not have been the case otherwise.

But to me I can see Hollywood easily wanting to remake films like Back to the Future and Ferris Bullers Day off now.

Overall i would give it 5/10 (Mainly due to some sound performances) look my girlfriend enjoyed it and found a good time waster. It's one of those films that you need to see really to make your mind up, but if like me you where not coming in with an open mind i suggest stay clear of it.

Yes remakes can be boring and I dislike alot of remakes and to be honest had they gone the lazy route by having someone like Saddler etc that would have been a waste. It's a shame that this film received so much criticism even before it was made (and unfair criticisms are sadly continuing) and this stigma I am sure will sadly affect it's success which is a real shame as it's really a good film.

The director Paul Feig recently said

'We are struggling every day to get the word out against that bias. We still get called in the press a 'chick flick' constantly,' Feig said.

'We're never referred to without the words 'all-female Ghostbusters,' which makes me crazy,' he added.

'It's an uphill battle that I can't believe in 2016 we're having to fight.'

As I said I was a bit unsure at first myself but as I watched it, I loved it more and more. There's this criticism that it's going to somehow ruin childhood memories of the original, it didn't do that all for me, it stands alone as just a new ghostbusters film not replacing or attempting to better the original but just a new take. It's interesting that so many really critical reviews have all been written by men. Over the past year there has been so much talk about race at the Oscars which is a shame but what has been sliding under the carpets for decades is the lack of female leading roles and lack of simply female nominations and winners. To have four women be the central characters here is amazing. I can't wait for Harley Quinn to steal the show in Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman to take centre stage in her upcoming film.

For me this new film was way more than the standard remake, the film is oddly a reimagining and at the same time, a lovely homage to the original. I mean it brought a lot of stuff really into 2016 and the script is really good, funny, clever and as I said actually has a lot of heart. I'd definitely give it 11/10 I can't wait to watch it again, deserves way more respect and credit than labelled 'a good time waster' But each to their own

TBF people are and will criticise and hype anything before it has been made unfortunately it is a by-product of the internet age, Much like it lets a vocal minority of ignorant people seem like a majority.

But the fact of the matter was it was a crap trailer (And it really was) what did Feig expect Sony dropped the ball on it's marketing and if someone such as yourself was unsure at first of the film then it shows Sony need to cop some blame on that. The new Star trek film had a crap trailier to begin with and Pegg said he is sorry about the trailer it was the PR's doing.

The argument about it ruining people childhood is stupid nothing is going to ruin your childhood unless it happen in your childhood and if you a film ruins it then it can't be much of a childhood to being with.

RE Oscars it is prob more difficult to stereotype it as you have the Best Actress and Best supporting Actress awards so no matter what 2 women are going to win an Oscar, whereas a whole Oscar show can go without a black winner (although i'm sure that percentage wise Black actors and actresses have a better win percentage than Hispanics and the Asian population but that is another thing), but yes in the Cat of directors and writers etc Women are very much underrepresented.

And yes things are rightly starting to become more level with as you say Quinn (Who i really hope has a film with Poison Ivy), Wonder women, Black Widow (which def sounds like it is a go) and Captain Marvel coming out in the comic book universes and hopefully more to come not like female characters are slim pickings in the comic world. (and one thing i will credit JLaw despite not rating her too much is she has led the way for strong female roles in family films).

I'm sure we can all agree that that needs/needed to happen.

But where i fear we really disagree is that i'm just judging it as just a film and a reboot of a film i really like, where as you are judging it as more than just that IMO. I got nothing against that at all (It is a bye product of different upbringings I'm going to relate to it as much as you as you clearly feel passionately about this film) but you can't just slap a label on anyone who dislikes as it being down to having an all female cast IMO. Yes there will be some who are pig ignorant at single out the cast just like they where some who didn't think stormtroopers could or should be black unfortunately the internet gives those people a voice.

For me this could have been starring the original cast and i wouldn't have liked it in fact prob more disappointed TBH.

Side note i would like to see Edgar Wright direct a sequel (which will prob happen) more than Feig i think he would give it a bit more edge and has a better track record in actual action/comedy films than Feig. (TBH i just don't like Feig might sound harsh but i just don't)

@pdbluray as I said each to their own, I personally thought this was a great film and as much as I love the original and the actors who played the cast the longer it went on the idea of them being in it I was worried and I am now glad they didn't.

This film as a film, forget remake, forget it's women, it's a funny, clever and throughly enjoyable film.

P.s. I am glad that you had a wee look up about the oscars and women, and women everywhere will be so happy that at least two women will win an Oscar as you put it, was worth the struggles for that lol

I guess the real criticism comes from the decades of waiting patiently for GB 3. Ackroyd wanted to do it and for the most part had everyone in on it. Except Murray of course. And without Venkman, there was no GB 3. Bottom line.

Ackroyd still wanted to go forth with a sequel but it looked like his plans were crushed when Murray suddenly proposed a counter offer to make an all female cast movie instead. And all this without the consent of the very man that wanted to continue the franchise. True, there was an intention to bring in 2 female cast members in GB 3. But suddenly what Murray said was gospel and the decades of the others attempting a sequel gets thrown in the bucket. In a way, it was a slap in the face. It was not the sequel we wanted, It at first felt like he was deliberately trying to sabotage the intention.

Contrary to the results and the opinion shared by those who have seen the new movie, it went against our hopes. People made this into a sexist thing but how would fans feel if they rebooted Sex and the City with an all male cast? Ghostbusters became a phenomenon. Not just a hit. It symbolized the four man team as iconic over the ages. And Feig's bold and snooty attitude whilst making it at first did not impress the very fans he was trying to impress to begin with. So yes. People are bitter about it.

This film as a film, forget remake, forget it's women, it's a funny, clever and throughly enjoyable film. I am not going to get into an argument with you, you weren't that fussed on it, I was, that's life but in my opinion it certainly deserves more than to be labelled a 'good time waster' .

P.s. I am glad that you had a wee look up about the oscars and women, and women everywhere will be so happy that at least two women will win an Oscar as you put it, was worth the struggles for that lol

I think you are being abit unfair to me and misread my comment about the oscars. I just gave a reason why it is more obvious in terms of race argument, I'm not saying women should be happy with it.

I mentioned how Women are underrepresented in the Non Gender categories such as writing and directing and Hollywood should look more into it.

But end of the day i feel that the Oscars are overrated anyway how many times has an Film or actor won it despite being judged as just an alright film by most of the public. Just a bunch of over the hill hollywood people cyclejerking people who don't need the ego boost.

I'm glad you enjoyed the film though

@denizen I don't believe for a second if they had stuck four men doing it, it would have got this heat, say yes it would, not in the way this has. No way.

It's really pathetic that some many people online are so bothered in 2016 it's women and say so.

I love the originals but this film is refreshing, fun and opens up the characters to generations of more people and for me that's fantastic. It's as sad as the die hard doctor who and Star Trek fans who won't watch the new series and films it's only them that is missing out.

@pdbluray I am sorry you didn't enjoy, I honestly thought I'd hate but watching it for what it is was, it's a great film, it had all the elements of ghostbusters I loved and the original cast sadly aren't going to be able to continue, I think the director and cast here really tried hard to continue the ghostbusters name and I personally think they did a great job, I am sorry you didn't enjoy it.

@Flash Who knows, mate. Maybe you are right. But its the behind the scenes drama that led to this uprising. It had nothing to do with male or female. The dramatic sexual turn of its cast was in a way contrived to be sarcastic to some. Remember the original intention was to add a female cast. But not like this.

What happened to Ackroyd's ideas? They were canned, And he had been working on it for over 20 years.
