After giving this a watch last night I was left scratching my head as to how this won some Oscar awards. I found it to be a very basic survival flick with no sub plots to keep me interested. I can't see myself itching to watch this again

At the time of release I thought the same. Was quite impressed with the visuals, but thought it was a bit hollow at its heart. I watched it again a few days ago, and it blew my mind. I now fully realise it didn't win awards for its plotting or story telling. It won awards because it emphatically broke ground in what was possible in the medium of film. It is a technical feat unrivalled by any other. The cinematography is utterly MIND BLOWING. Alfonso Cuaron directed himself into the upper echelons of film making mastery with this film in my opinion. It isn't by any means my favourite film, but because of what it achieves, which is totally and utterly unprecedented (at least to my knowledge), I would consider it one of the greatest films of all time; the 21st Century's Citizen Kane, if you will.

Much more realistic price, good price drop, although as I went to order I questioned how much I would actually watch this if I owned it. Anyone own it and recommend a buy?

Get the french version instead. It is almost as cheap, is full gloss, has 4 discs and has Dolby Atmos and Silent Space track.
