Still premium packaging whether YOU like it or not. Many people didn't like the original steelbook for the first movie yet it was HIGHLY sought after upon release, even more SOUGHT after years later and when Novamedia stuck it into some slips with some extas became something of a GRAIL. We all know the drill.. like it? get it. Don't like it? Get blufans. It's science
Alright luv, calm your knockers, no one was attacking you or your like of the artwork, reread my comment, it was my
personal view on the way studios have great artwork available and then make random choices that (by the comments on it) are met with dislike by a lot of collectors.
I'll never understand why people have to take a generic statement about a studios decision as a personal slight against them, we're all adults, there's no need to fall out with anyone.
Regardless of whether the first one (Walkman rip off design) is sought after or not, it's more because it's GOTG and less because of the design, the kick off at the final walkman art was immense, the price it goes for pales in comparison to the other GOTG steelbooks out there simply because as you say, that Walkman design was then padded out with books, stickers and most importantly amazing vibrant slips and lentis' of which the designs are more vibrant and exciting, and capture an eighties movie poster vibe that a lot of collectors are into. Just because something is in a steelbook doesn't automatically make it premium packaging, it just makes it metal packaging (as some of the dire steelbooks out there are testimony to). Does steelbook packaging cost more to produce than card or paper packaging? Sure, but no way as much as the studios would have you believe, don't fall into the marketing trap on that one. Steelbook doesn't automatically mean premium. But hey that's my opinion on it, and you'll clearly disagree and that's absolutely fine too, there's no need for snarkiness.
