I know its old news, but I was just wondering what you all thought about the earthquake that hit Haiti last week.

Talk about one of the worst countries for something like this to happen. I can't imagine how many people are injured but cant get access to good health care, clean water and proper food. Just such a sad thing.

Anyone doing anything to help out? There was some talk at my school about going down there for spring break to do some relief work, but I don't think those plans will follow through. You guys know of any charities or organizations that need help (other than like the red cross)?

The only problem is this: The Red Cross is crap, as well as A LOT of other main stream charities. They keep a lot of the money "as pay" even though it's non-profit. The CEOs and stuff still make bank, then the money goes into Haiti and gets stolen, literally, by the government. They don't do anything for the people, it's been proven and you can read about it on trusted news sites.

Then you have lesser known, but seemingly good charities like the one ran by Wyclef Jean, who according to news reports, has been taking money from the charity and spending it on studio time, and other personal needs.

The ONLY one I would send your hard earned money to is Doctors Without Boarders. It's set up where real life doctors can go into the countries and take their expertise and help the people that actually need it. They might have the same crappy CEO pay that other charities have, but the government can't steal the money that does go to the right place because it's spent on medical supplies that will actually be used by first rate doctors.

Haiti is a nightmare.

I feel bad for those people, the situation there is awful.

It really makes me appreciate all of the luxuries our country has, and how much better we could respond to a disaster like that simply because we just have more resources available (even if everything fell apart). In Haiti there really isn't anything to begin with, then you smash it to pieces and even when you go looting there isn't much to loot.

I was reading one story where a girl was trapped inside a church and while she was stuck under the rubble there was a vicar she was talking to for a couple days until finally the vicar stopped responding. She spent another couple days alone trapped under the rubble. What a mess.

The whole situation makes me sad, but I feel really sad for the little children who no longer have parents. It's one thing to not have your parents as a little child but to be in an earthquake and lose your parents and have no one around to help you during this time just makes me feel for these little kids.

It really sucks for them really, the situation is only getting worse. It is really a sad situation. The quake only brought out the shaky government and everything around them.

you must be forgetting Katrina and the ILLEGAL DISASTER that our government turned that into.

But, not to get off topic, the death toll continues to rise. It's really sad that it hit such a poor nation.

Anderson Copper is still in Haiti reporting on the terrible repercussions of last week's catastrophic earthquake. While reporting on a looting, he noticed a young boy in the midst of all the violence be brutally smashed in the head with a concrete block. Anderson bravely stepped in to save the boy from further violence. In his blog, he wrote about the incident, explaining:

"I was in the midst of the melee with Charlie Moore, my producer, Neil Hallsworth my cameraman, Vlad Duthiers, my translator, and there was a still photographer from Getty Images with us, photojournalist Jonathan Torgovnik. As things got really out of control, I saw a looter on the roof of the store they'd broken into throw what I think was part of a concrete block into the crowd. It hit a small boy in the head.

I saw him collapse. More chunks of concrete were being thrown at the looters on the roof. The injured boy couldn't get up. He'd try and then collapse again. Blood was pouring from his head. He was conscious but had no control over his body. I was afraid someone on the roof would see him lying there and throw another cinder block piece onto him. I was afraid he'd get killed. No one seemed to be helping him.

I ran to where he was struggling, and picked him up off the ground. I brought him to a spot about a hundred feet away. I could feel his warm blood on my arms. I stood him up, but he was clearly unable to walk. He wiped his bloody face, and I tried to reassure him. He had no idea where he was, and he clearly couldn't walk, so I picked him up again and handed him over to someone behind that makeshift barricade. Tony, the American businessman, gave the boy a wet towel. He was then taken away by someone else. We don't know what happened to him.

I hope he's ok."
