Response from ES about the finish they are going for on this release:
There’s an emboss on the title treatment, gloss varnish on the front, cutting out the characters and a dull varnish covering the back.

The red text and red image on the back is also a pantone red, which should be a bright pillar box red.

Wreck should talk to ES and get them to limit these (1-2) per customer like Amazon did with Skyfall.

This will make it fair for all as it appears this is going to be a future trend with ES to release 1K print run Steelbooks and selling out in a day or so.

I dont agree with you mate and what about any guy who wants to do GB to help international member? We need to help them to get this aswell

Surely this is rarer than the mythical "John rambo" holy grail steelbook,so what sort of prices can we expect it to fetch on ebay etc?

It can't be done anyway. I asked Luke last week and he said without manual intervention Play don't allow order quantity restrictions.

I don't think it's done automatically by Zavvi either, is it? I believe they stipulate a max quantity and then if anybody goes over it they manually cancel the order down? Just as the Korean retailers do.

It seems only Amazon's software allows a max quantity to be set at time of ordering.

Fair point about the GB's:thumbs: I was just thinking of a solution where people can get orders in and stop posting about scalpers taking 20 copies and them not getting a chance..

Something has to be done. If eBay resellers are grabbing twenty copies at a time then it's completely unfair. As for GBs, with it being such a small operation, I'm sure they could be arranged between HDN and Entertainment Store similar to the way it is done with Blufans. If not we have enough helpful UK members who could put an extra copy onto their orders. Whatever happens though, you can't have a Steelbook limited to 1,000 copies only to allow eBay guys to buy dozens.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this something you do yourself on eBay? I hear plenty of moaning about certain eBay members, but many eBay resellers are also members here.

i suppose you could get an agreement with them like Kevin does with blufans where they save so many for the group buys then the rest is on general sale

I honestly think the hype with jack reacher has caused these outstanding sales...surely half or more has gone to resellers and GB hosts. The rrp of these steelbooks are insane and people are just buying them because they dont want to miss out on a low print run like jack reacher.
A popcorn flick sells out quicker than most blockbusters that have come out in UK, speechless!

I would buy it, but i dont give a ****. £28 is stupid, for any steelbook, Say it...28 quid. Dont be silly

No-one is buying this for the film, its the exclusivity, which isnt worth £28, its not worth pence.

And to those who forked out for multiple copies of damaged J.R. at £28 to sell on, thats the game.

I've totally ignored this release as I don't care how limited it supposedly is I ain't paying £28 and it don't even have 3d, I carnt believe people are paying it. I think people have just been suckered in.

And pretty sure it will be released elsewhere.

Maybe some people liked the film and it was on their list to purchase whether it came out in steelbook or amaray? This thread can stop tarring everyone with the same brush

If people stopped paying the ridiculous prices "scalpers" set on ebay then guess what? They would stop buying them to sell on, but collectors will pay stupid money for a sold out release and therefore this will never stop and every thread will descend in to ebay chat :squint::rolleyes:

Im looking forward to seeing this one in person AND watching the film again

I agree HDN should negotiate GB deals with ES allowing International customers a chance or allowing a UK GB host a set amount.

Like yourself i sell on ebay;) its a legal worldwide auction site:D i don't moan though people do what they want with thier money.

Being new to this collecting thing I guess I look for two thinks - collectibility and looks. For me this tops both. Yes it's expensive but I'd rather pay an extra tenner for something I know there is only 1k of compared to £17 for something where there may be 4k+ of.

If they weren't meant to be collectible - they'd not do limited edition runs. They'd just produce them and ask you to pay a little more than the standard release.

On the 3D thing I'm not bothered as I won't be opening my steels - I like them sealed so the number of discs makes no difference to me.

Just my two pennies - I thank you

Totally agree. GB should be an exception. FS, Best Buy, Target and MM don't ship abroad but we can sort GB out so it's not too bad for members in other countries.

I'm getting sick of all the name calling around here recently and how every thread descends into a rant about the evils of ebay and the free market economy. There should be something in the OP on all threads like the one on the Aladdin thread that limits talk of 'scalpers' and ebay pricing/qty. If you want to talk about this there are other threads to do this.

i don't get the big hype about this, people seem to be talking about "exclusive" like its not being released anywhere else. MM announced theirs before this was announced. No doubt there will be many other releases. I don't understand the big deal about jack reacher either. I collect steelbooks either because i don't have the regular amaray or because i love the look of the steel. Jack reacher was a lazy design and an overall **** steelbook IMO

Seems every time a title sells out quickly the thread descends into talk of ebay scalpers and more often than not it gets heated. Some of these posts are starting to drift 'off topic' so let's stop or move the conversation over to the relevant ebay threads

There is no proof that anyone has been ordering dozens, twenty copies etc (with the exception of the GB guys who must have been approved in some way) so all this comes off the back of a couple of speculative comments

I suppose the proof will be if they start to appear on ebay in large quantity. Jack Reacher wasn't exactly all over ebay with the exception of a couple of sellers. A couple of sellers aren't going to have that big an impact on a 1k run so perhaps it's a more genuinely quick selling through the number

Probably find quite a few folk who only ordered 1 JR might have been inclined to get an extra copy of H&G. Don't blame them either

At the end of the day it's still exciting when these exclusives and limited editions sell out so fast. Probably means many scalpers don't even get a chance at them either!

Not to be a dick guys, but I'm getting pretty bored of reading this same debate in every new thread on here. At the end of the day, some people are wise enough to supplement their income with ebay sales, and ther's nothing wrong with that. Amazon don't sell at a loss you know, yet nobody bitches at them when they rake in millions each month.

In other words; get over it and move on.

And to those who forked out for multiple copies of damaged J.R. at £28 to sell on, thats the game, and you had that coming for being idiots

They had what coming? Two copies for the price they paid for each one?? And they'll at least double their money on each copy anyway. Regardless of 'manufacturing fault'.

Some people spend a lot more than £28 on each group but for less limited releases. You pay your money you take your choice.

This movie looks absolute garbage, but the steelbook sounds good. And if worst comes to worst I can trade my copy for something I really want since they don't ship outside the UK :scat:
