Response from ES about the finish they are going for on this release:

There’s an emboss on the title treatment, gloss varnish on the front, cutting out the characters and a dull varnish covering the back.

The red text and red image on the back is also a pantone red, which should be a bright pillar box red.

Its not expensive just look how much the hobbit is from france 34.99 euros same with many others. We in the uk have just had it good for a long time with cheap steelbook.

You are not helping your argument with those comparisons. The Hobbit France is 4 discs, has the 3D version of the film AND has a lenticular cover. I rest my case! :movie:

I think the price is fine,as long as it's definately limited to 1000 copy's,which it certainly looks like it is,it's only £2.70 more than life of pi which probably had a few thousand more copy's print run & will be in stock forever.

Entertainment Store need to announce in advance when the pre-order is going to go live. It is pretty ridiculous that if you couldn't get to your computer for a single day then you've missed out on this title.

As for it being a new trend, I would love to see them stick to one thousand copy print runs, but I doubt it is going to happen. They'll see the sales figures for this and double (or more) the print run like they did with this after Jack Reacher. I would definitely like to see more really limited releases though. Four thousand was great at first but now it has become the norm. Only the most popular titles generate real hype with those kinds of figures due to the amount of titles being released.

That was just an example most all steelbooks from france and germany are always more expensive at least 25.00 euros each to 30 euros and they are not limited to 1000.

Hi folks-everyone at this site works hard behind the scenes to create a fun environment for collectors-please contribute to that. 'Missing' an item, discussions about print runs, and scalpers, etc always fan flames and tend to incite people, because of the passion that is inherent in this hobby, wanting to own something limited, and feeling like one 'missed the boat'.

We thank you in advance for respecting each other, and refraining from personal attacks. A retailer is not required to announce any items in advance, and sometimes will choose to turn their 'system' on or off, without telling anyone else, as that is their prerogative. Much work is done daily to build relationships that allow us to share info about upcoming releases at all. Rest assured that any pertinent feedback will be shared with the decision makers to the extent that their own preferences can be influenced. Thanks everyone for being part of HDN and sharing your thoughts on all of these exciting, and limited releases.

Nope, not now. Seene the artwork on the 3D Amaray and think I prefer that, although Gemma really stands out more on the plain ole 2D Amaray.

Very good point snoo, although I would have thought at this stage ES are taking whatever they can get on the back of other retailers and not dictating the print run.
